Disconnect all the Ethernet cables from all the ports.
Connect one of those eight "bad" ports to your laptop.
See if the port works when it is the ONLY active port.
If not, move the cable to the next of the eight "bad" ports, and test again. Repeat.
Move the cable to one of the 40 "good" ports, and test.
If it works, then you have a hardware problem with that "group" of 8 ports.

Your choice to use only the 40 "good" ports, or to replace the router, if you need those last 8 ports.

SOURCE: Linksys SRW2008 blocking ports

blocking ports and QoS is a layer 3 function, switches are layer 2 unless you buy a layer two switch. You will need to do this on your router.

SOURCE: Good morning, how do I

There is a tiny reset button on the back of the switch.

Power off the switch. keep the tiny black switch pressed and do not release that. Power On the switch and the sys LED will blink slowly and then rapidly. Now release the black button and wait for 5 minutes.

Not much you can do when you have dead ports on a switch but just to replace the whole switch. The cost of having someone take it apart and repair/replace the dead ports will probably cost more than a new switch.

Most newer switches have auto detect MDI / MDI-X ports, but try a cross-over cable since this model is end of life.

Hi I would like o hook up a netgear prosafe 8port gigabit switch to my pc and run an ethernet cable which is allready hardwired to my sony bluray player so I can enjoy netflix

It would be much easier to use a simpler device, namely any Netgear 10/100 wireless router.

Cable-modem (or DSL-modem) --> Router's WAN port

Router's LAN port #1 --> your desktop computer
Router's LAN port #2 --> your Sony player
Router's wireless adapter --> your iPod Touch's WiFi adapter

Since the cable-modem (or DSL-modem) is only delivering 5 to 25 Mbits/second to your router,
unless you are paying a _lot_ of money per month to your ISP,
there's no need to buy/use expensive "gigabit" equipment.

I have a dynex 8 port gigabit ethernet switch. I see 8 ports but do not see a port to put the incoming ethernet wire. I put it in port 1 and put an outbound in port 2 but cannot connect to the internet.

Hello
Connections should go.Main internet to router, then from router to dynex switch, then to pc or pcs.
There is no main internet ethernet port, as this is just a switch. You need a Router before the dynex switch.

Won't allow connection to router

Since each of these devices is rated for 1000Mb/s, everything should be compatible. Make sure the NIC driver is up-to-date on your computer....and use automatic settings for speed and duplex wherever you have the option of setting it. The only other thing I can think of is to try a "crossover" cable between the router and switch...although this function is usually handled automatically in most modern interfaces.
