One most frequent problem with your model Krups XP2000 series is a follows.

After opening the back (yes the warranty is broken) below we have some photos to help you and here is what we found. Poor quality control there are two screws holding a hose interface to the reservoir and they are not tight or became loose since they are metal screws going into plastic that get hot and vibrates.
The fix is to tighten the screws just slightly so that you do not crack the plastic then dab them with nail polish so that they do not move. (see second photo).

You will need to pulled apart and did a test run (without coffee), with this you could have a visual check to find any leak.

In order to pull apart the machine XP7240 you need to unscrew 4 screws in the front, three on the top (underneath the lid where you put the cleaning tablet), one inside the coffee container at the top, and pull gently, but firmly the little black knob inside the coffee container, that you use to adjust the coffee grinding, straight up. Then you can remove the coffee container on the top, and unscrew one screw underneath this container. Also, remove the two screws from the holes beneath the water container. NOW, you should be able to pull the front electronics off, and pull the main cover backwards, away from the front panel. You may have to bend it a little to get it completely off, but it is not a problem.

The error 3 is for a combination mulfaction of the not correct sequence of functions of the machine and these can have many reasons including the one you have mention when you have active the microswitchs. The manufacturer mention to switch it off and leave for some minutes and switch it on again if it remains then to attemp for professional help. However these does not mean anything since the procedure in cases like these is to perform all the operations of the machine without the panels and keep looking for any mulfuction.
So we advice first to find the leak and if if the error insist the to proceed to search for these reason.

Hi,

Both of them indicate that there is a failure in the internal bypass valve that sends the water to the overflow pan. You will need to contact krups for the part or take it to the nearest repair center. The part is not available online and could only be replaced by Krups itself.

I wish i could have a better solution.

Kindly accept my solution so that i could get the credit for my time.

Thanks and Regards

Lost directions - how to descale keurig ?

Hello, Here is a tip i wrote, see if this helps you.

Have you ever wondered, 'how do I descale my expresso machine?' First lets us understand what is exactly is scaling. The build up of minerals inside the hot parts of your coffee machine or espresso machine is commonly called lime scale. When lime scale builds up inside the Espresso machine, it slows down the water flow, reduces the boiler capacity and can prevent your coffee machine from working properly. To keep your Espresso machine operational at full order, it is important to descale it every three months. The time intervals between descaling depend upon many factors. Quality of your water and the amount of water running through the machine are the two main factors that decide the frequency at which you should descale your Espresso machine. The more you your machine, more often should you descale it. In some cities, in conjunction with a water filter you can use your coffee machine for a year or more without descaling at all. If you use less water by drinking espressos you'll need to descale less often than if you make cappuccinos.

Descaling products are widely available from stores that sell coffeemakers and espresso machines. Be sure that the product you buy to descale your Espresso machine is intended for this specific use only. Before you descale your Espresso machine, always unplug it and make sure that it is cold. Also, never immerse the appliance in water and nor should you use abrasive cleaning products or scouring materials on any part of your Expresso machine. In case your Espresso machine does not come with a instruction guide or booklet, then use a proper citric acid based descaling solution designed for espresso machines. This should be mixed and prepared as per the instructions on the bottle or packet. Once your Espresso machine has been descaled properly you would not be left wondering, 'how do I descale my expresso machine?', treat yourself to a great cup of coffee. Some popular models of Espresso machines are Krups EA8080 Espresseria Automatic, DeLonghi Magnifica EAM3200S, Krups Nespresso CitiZ & Milk XN 7106 Fire-engine red, DeLonghi Perfecta ESAM5400, DeLonghi PrimaDonna ESAM6600, DeLonghi Magnifica ESAM4200S, DeLonghi Perfecta ESAM5500 and Magimix Nespresso Citiz M190.

What does it mean to descale my tassimo? the yellow light is on and the screen keeps saying "descale". thanks

In order to keep your Tassimo machine operational at full order, it is important to descale it every three months. Descaling products are widely available from stores that sell coffeemakers and espresso machines. Be sure that the product you buy to descale your Tassimo machine is intended for this specific use only. Mix the descaling product directly in the water container, following the instructions provided on the descaling packaging. Then replace the water container on the machine. Place a large cup or mug on the cup stand, insert the cleaning disc, bar code down and close the brew mechanism. As soon as the AUTO light illuminates, press and release the start/stop button. This will fill the brew cycle with descaling solution. Empty the cup and let the machine stand for 15 minutes. Then open the brew mechanism and close it again, leaving the cleaning disc in place. Repeat this step two more times for maximum descaling effectiveness.

Discard the remaining descaling agent from the water container, rinse it well and refill with fresh, cold water. Clean the machine by flushing water through it in the same manner and emptying the cup as it fills. Make sure that all the descaling solution has been completely rinsed away, and then flush two full water containers through the machine before using it again. Remove the cleaning disc, rinse and refill the water container and your Tassimo machine is ready to use. Also, before you descale your Tassimo machine, always unplug it. Also, never immerse the appliance in water and nor should you use abrasive cleaning products or scouring materials on any part of your Tassimo machine. This method works for most espresso machines, including some of these popular models: the DeLonghi Magnifica EAM3200S, DeLonghi Magnifica ESAM4200S, DeLonghi Perfecta ESAM5400, Gaggia 74507BCN Classic, Krups EA8080 Espresseria Automatic, DeLonghi PrimaDonna ESAM6600, the BC0255 DeLonghi coffee machine and the Krups Nespresso CititZ XN 7006.

I have the same model, same age, same problem. It appears to be the seal between the metal heating coils, and the plastic switch that selects steam or coffee. Possibly caused by no cleaning the injector hole with the tool provided with machine (which causes a lot of back pressure). On mine, the screw that holds the switch to the heater has corroded and can not be unscrewed, so not possible to access rubber seal, and repair. May be tricky since this is plastic sealed to hot metal with a rubber gasket. So fo now, i unscrewed the black base plate on the bootom, and set the Alessi in a tray. THen just wipe up water after use.

Hello Pat, You have a common occurring problem. Your tubing in clotted. The least expensive solution is to use regular vinegar instead of water for several cycles, no coffee grounds. The clot will dissolve and water flow will return to normal. Cycle just water until no taste or smell of vinegar is present. Have some HOT COFFEE.

Water will not pass through the capsule?

Try running vinegar in stead of water, without the coffee thru it several times.
