3 new Kidde i4618 smoke detectors were put in last week. Last night one of them began chirping. I went to the store and bought brand new batteries and replaced them and tested the units which all worked. But the chirping has not stopped. I just tried having the system go off for 30+ seconds as as advised but that has not worked either.

Smoke detectors work by smelling the air across a radioactive anode which upsets the electronics and sets off the alarm
it can be set off not only by smoke but by heat and gasses in the air
the new and better product is a photo electric detector which alerts earlier and can be installed connected to each room and into the house power or they come with a 10 years lithium battery
It could be a faulty unit so take it back for a warranty exchange unit

SOURCE: kidde smoke alarm won't stop chirping

Most smoke detecotrs have a limited lifespan of 5-10 years. On the underside of the detectors should be a sticker with installed dated or replace by date. If changing the batteries doesn't stop the chirping it is most like time to replace the detector. If you check the manufacturer website they will give you a life expectancy for your detector.

SOURCE: our kidde battery operated Carbon Monoxide

Relocate it to an area of fresh air - outside will work.. Does it still beep?
If yes, recover the new battery and toss the unit.

Do you have it located in a steamy damp area? Laundry room, bath room etc.. That will cause it to malfunction too..

SOURCE: Hardwired Kidde Nighthawk co/smoke detector

If the display shows "Lb", the battery is probably low; replace it. If the display shows "Err", push and hold the Peak Level button. Does the display change to "E09"? If so, then you have just been "had" by the grossly under-documented "planned obsolescence feature" called, rather matter-of-factly, "End of Life". This means that ~7 years after first being powered up, the unit will, BY DESIGN, cease to function, forcing you to buy a replacement. Would have been nice of Kidde to include THAT warning on the OUTSIDE of the package. Call their "Hotline" at 1-800-880-6788 and tell them what you think of that policy. If it is still under warranty (5 or 7 years depending on date of manufacture) they should replace it. In any event, buy another one; if they replace your first one you will have twice the protection. Not a bad thing. *Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, despite the handle. Words to live by: "Every creative act results from a sudden cessation of stupidity." -Edwin H. I have a kidde smoke detector. I have changed the battery and it is "hard wired", however it continue to chirp. What is my problem and how can I fix it?

Hello -

When our Kidde hard-wired smoke detector "chirps" we have to purchase a replacement unit.

Your local hardware store or home supplies store should carry them. We remove the hard-wired smoke detector and take it to the store to compare to make sure we purchase the right model.

Best wishes.

My Kidde Model 1285 keeps chirping even after I changed the batteries, any ideas why?

Be sure you are using a well known brand battery. The store brands, in my my opinion generally are not quite up to par. Try this and see if the chirp will stop. Thanks for asking me.

My kidde AC smoke alarm I12020 chirps at night then come daylight it makes no noise

Most "chirping" is indicative of low batteries. Perhaps your smokes are improperly wired through a light switch? As to locating, try using a piece of tape over the sound port to change the sound; with these problems there are often more than one causing it. Check also to see if you have any CO alarms that were plugged into a switched outlet. Most of these also have battery backup. Good luck!

I have the Firex i4618, after changing the battery it continues to chirp, have tried 2 new Duracell proper model batteries with same result.

Smoke Detecotrs have a limited lifespan of 5-7 years. So sounds like you need new one (Its not worth to buy just a sensor). Take a look on amazon Amazon: Amazon com Smoke Alarm. I hope this helped you. Have a nice day

Kidde # 1276 chirps indicating low battery. Battery replaced and chirping continues. Why?

Don't know for sure, but if your smoke detector is more than 5 years old, than you have to purchase new one (that's their average lifetime). Take a look on amazon: Amazon com smoke alarm. I hope I have helped. Cheers

I changed the battery in my smoke alarm and it is still chirping. What can the problem be?

Use a quality battery duracell or energizer. Not ones from the dollar store.

Chirping means low battery.
