I have a mo8 and the sustain pedal is reversed. What can I do to make sustain when pedal is depressed?

I would suspect the sustain pedal jack on the keyboard is either dirty or defective. Try using some contact cleaner first, and if that doesn't work replace the jack.

Buy sustain pedal made for CASIO or switable model.
Pedal for Yamaha or Roland will work in reverse on a Casio.
If you cannot return for exchange, then open up and solder a different type of micro switch.

If electronic trace the cable back to make sure connection is secure. Sometimes there is a button that turns sustain off, check control panel to make sure it is switched on. If piano is acoustic take off front panel beneath pedal board to make sure wooden rod is still connected.

You should have a setting on the keyboard which allows you to switch pedal control. Check the manual.

Sorry, but the Yamaha pedal has the opposite sense (it is a normally open contact) than what is REQUIRED by Roland equipment. Roland requires a Normally Closed contact. Unfortunately, one is confused because the Roland jack for the sustain shorts itself to no sustain when you unplug a pedal. SOMETIMES one can open a pedal and with soldering iron change a wire to reverse the pedal sense IF the particular pedal has both contacts available.

Roland requires a pedal that is normally closed, open sustains. MOST pedals work the opposite. SOME pedals you can open and rewire... but not all can be.

1.Make sure you are plugged in to DAMPER (not FC1 or FC2) 2. Check to see if the notes STOP sustaining when you PRESS the pedal. If that is the case, first try turning off the Roland with the pedal plugged in and restarting with the pedal pressed down. 3. Press the EDIT button and scroll to Damper Polarity. See if it's set to Standard or Reverse. 4. If problem persists after all that, try holding the pedal jack into the Roland at different angles and then try the same with where the cable connects to the pedal. At that point, you can either attempt to repair the pedal or get another one.

Usually that indicates that the polarity of the jack for the sustain pedal has been switched or someone has substituted another pedal with the wrong polarity. Try looking in the manual to see if that is an editable parameter for people who might not be able to obtain an original pedal. You may have to initialize the keyboard which is on page viii of the manual. The jacks on the back for footswitches are on page 1 and 2. The footswitch settings are on page 9. If it is the single footswitch, the default setting should work correctly if it is the original SW-2 or SW-6 pedal switches. If it is the optional SW-10, the FTswL setting should be Unused. I have the same problem, But I have been using the same pedal since new. Infact it came with this pedal. Then suddenly it started doing this. Could I have changed soem setting by accident?

What I figured out is that when i turn on the keyboard, if i hold down the pedal by accident, it will work in reverse. I dont know if this is what you mean. If it is, just dont touch the pedal when you turn it on. If it isn't, try to return the pedal. I dropped one, it had this problem, and they gave me a new one. Your cord for it might have been bent (?). Also, turn the keyboard on with the pedal already plugged in. It's not made to be plugged in while it's on. Hope this helps. - Matthew
