The fan bearings are probably gummed up with dirt or solidified lubricant. Unplug the unit and try turning the fan by hand. It should be easy to turn. If it is not check to see whether you can free the bearings with a quick rinse with WD-40. (If the bearings are sealed, you should replace the fan motor.)

SOURCE: condenser fan barely runs on ge profile fridge

The bearings on the condensor fan motor are dry. You can attempt to lubricate the motor with a parifin based oil using either Union 76 "Turbine Oil" or a product called ZOOM-Spout turbine Oiler that is available in most hardware and appliance parts stores. See this link for examples of the oiler: http://www.google.com/search?q=Zoom+Spout+turbine+Oil&hl=en&safe=off&pwst=1&rls=com.microsoft:en-ph&prmd=ivns&source=univ&tbm=shop&tbo=u&ei=sqPZTcivKISEvAPOv-G_Bw&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&ct=image&resnum=3&ved=0CCoQzAMwAg&biw=1003&bih=587

Do what you can to clean off the bearings and armature shaft then lubricate with the oil.
Most of the time lubrication will snap a tired fan out of running slow. On the hard molded motors (encased) lubrication takes much longer as you have to lubricate and wait for the oil to reach the lower bearing deep inside the housing. It is ok to oil from the top and let it run to the lower bearing. It will not hurt the fan. I place the fan on a paper towel for as long as I can and wait for the exvess to drain off before re-installing the motor. On the non-encased motors you can remove the bearings and clean the motor shaft and the bearing then lubricate reassemble and lubricate again.

If your using an external fan... it is OK to use the refrigerator while your waiting for the oil in the motor to drip out. Just make sure there is a 15 minute pause each time you remove power or the compressor will not re-start properly.

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.
First I would check cold control. Thats where you turn it off, if your temp is not warm. it can
be defective and not shutting off. If your temp is warm proceed with the following.
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if FREEZER CONTROL is turned WARMER WHICH MAKES THE REF COLDER AND VICE-VERSA. SEE?
The ref. temp should be about 33-35
The Freezer temp should be 0 to 10 Any thing below these temps is overkill and a waste of elect
The higher the number you turn it up to is the coldest
But is probably a common defrost problem The ice build up
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
Make sure back cover is on the fridge. Some take them off and throw them away.
make one out of cardboard if its gone, using the holes of the old one.

I have a ge GSH25JFXB WW side by side frig that was hit by a power surge. now, it does not cool like it use to. both the freezer and frig and warmer than before even when you turn it on full blast. they...

Start by checking the compressor. If it is running, you should tell by it being warm and a slight vibration/hum....it will start and should run until thermostat stops it. Since it's not cooling, it should be running all the time. There are 2 copper or stainless tubes entering the compressor. One should be hot;the other cold. If both are same temp,or the compressor not running,or is hot to the touch, your compressor is done for(some have a removable connector with contacts that are replaceable) Compressors aren't cheap.

My 5 year old fridge/top freezer ge profile just stopped cooling, motor running but no cooling

First thing I need you to do is unplug pull away from wall and remove the cover over the compressor. Feel the top of the compressor and if too hot to hold your hand on the top leave the refrigerator unplugged until we can decide if this is the start components or another part like a fan not working all the time. I will send a manual and be available for assistance if you want, Thanks, Sea Breeze

GE Eterna stopped cooling. Not even 2 years old!

The noise if you listen close is probably the klixon cycling because the compressor is hot. If the condenser is plugged (real dirty), sign of a clean house, and/or the condenser fan is bad you will not get cooling. If the condenser fans operating properly and the fans inside the freezer and refrigerator are operating that would indicate serious problems assuming the compressor is operating.

Good Luck,

Ge Profile fridge Model #PSC25MSTASS Wacky temps in Freezer for several weeks, so much so that ice will not stay frozen, so we just shut the ice maker off. Most of the other foods would stay frozen,...

Pull the refrig out from the wall , and remove the rear panel . Touch the compressor and feel if its hot or running . If the compressor is cool , then the main control board is bad ( since the compressor isn't running ) . If you can solder , you can repair the board (another paragraph ) . If the compressor is warm , then you could have a thermistor or 2 bad . This would have to be checked by a technician , unless you know how to get into the diagnostics procedure . Also , see if the compressor cooling fan is working and the black squirl cage is clean of dust .

GE side by side not cooling properly/outside surface hot

please check the condenser fan motor. it is probably not running or the condenser is very dirty.

remove the rear cover and it will show you the compressor and the condenser fan.
if the fan is not running, try to rotate it manually and feel if it is sticking .

if it is, it may just need the old wd 40 lubricant.

Side by side not cooling

Couple of things... first need to see if the compressor is really hot to the touch and "clicking" on and off every 3-5 minutes due to high heat (trying to start). If that's what is happening you likely have a "start device" failure (little box on the side of the compressor). If the box is white in color and you pull it off and it makes noise when you shake it (along with little bits of debris falling out) you know it's bad. They make a kit to fix that known problem. If the compressor isn't trying to start but actually runs quietly... check that the cooling coil isn't all iced up preventing proper air flow inside the cabinet (take the panel of the rear inside of the freezer section to check it). If that is all a block of ice basically you likely have a defrost cycle problem (defrost t-stat bad, defrost timer bad, etc.). Other than that you should have a little fan right above the coils to move air around, if the compressor is running and the compressor fan (called condensor fan) is running then this fan (called evaporator fan) should also be running to move the cold air around. If that fan is dead then you will have a nice cold coil but no air flow over it to cool the rest of the refer/freezer properly. Let us know what ya find out.
