Id you have no TV repair experience, play it safe and take the set into an authorized Sony repair place to estimate the cost to repair. Yes I know it would be nice to repair, but how much do you know about component level printed circuit board repair? You will need to first get a service manual, know how to read a circuit diagram, thats a schematic, and know how every circuit works with each other to make the TV set operate. I do appriciate the fact you would like to repair this yourself, but there is no magic fix in most cases when it comes to electronics. There is circuit diagnosise involved. Best advice would be to call in a pro to assist you in these types of repairs. Good Luck

If you have the original remote for this TV on the pip menu (left side slider on remote all the way up) there is a pip off button. If you unplug the unit long enough it should go back to normal. If you go into demo mode and then exit mode you will again be out of the pip. With out the original remote you cannot easily turn pip off.

it sounds like two possible problems first power supply has over heated causing solder joint to come loose on printed curcuit board, or secondly, there is i black transformer at rear of tv,with wire that connects to the back of tube, this can sometimes fail ,you can try and reconect this but would advise not to do this yourself,as tvs hold high voltage charge for many years , and could result in death.you could take the tv to repair shop and tell them you know the problem,if they think you know what might be the problem, the may not rip you off hope this helps,,,
ps please be care full tvs can kill
