I have a SONY KD-30XS955 that I purchased in June of 2005. About two weeks ago I started to experience problems getting the TV to "light" or completely power on. In the past when I experienced this problem, I would simply unplug the set for about a minute, plug it in again and the set would power up completely. Problem solved. Recently, however, I found that this remedy no longer works. After I turn the power on, following the initial "click" of the power being engaged, there is a secondary click, followed by the "Stand By / Timer" red light on the front blink 7 times rapidly in succession and then repeating. Since the problem first occurred, I have been in touch with SONY customer care as well as their parts and accessories department. The most helpful of their techs seemed 90% sure that either the Thermistor or Capacitor (or both) needed replacing. However, since that day the TV has worked intermittently with no problems. Some days it would work fine and light while others it would not light at all. I'm aware that the 7 blinks denotes a High Voltage Shutdown. I live in a high rise in NYC, where for the past two weeks the weather has been extremely hot and humid. So much so that there have been rumors of Con Edison using brown outs to protect the power grid from overload. So I guess my first question would be is it possible that the TV is unable to draw enough voltage to light or power on since it has worked several times since I first encountered the problem two weeks back? Because a service call is $100 just to show up and diagnos the problem, I am reluctant to place one if this indeed might be the case. However, I have been very happy with the TV thus far and would be willing to have it repaired should the total cost be reasonable and it is indeed worth saving. A few people have suggested to me getting a power booster or even a special power strip which would regulate the voltage. Are these indeed options or is a service call the best remedy in this case? Any help, suggestions or advice you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time, insight and expertise...

SOURCE: Sony kv-40xbr800 won't turn on, blinks 6 or 7 times

My tv kept getting 6 blinking lights and sometimes 4 and 7 blinking lights. So I first changed IC504 (5v reg) and the caps near it C530 and C540. It turned on a couple of times and then it stopped again within 24 hours. then I changed IC5001 AND IC 5002. still no luck. then changed C6503 AND C6590 capacitors with (1500micro f 250V because local store did not have 1200micro f 250V) they were a bit bigger and did not fit so I used 16 awg copper wire and made about 1inch legs so they would reach. I also changed C6546 becuase I saw that black goo on it and firgured it wouldn't hurt to change. still no luck. Then I changed IC6501 with a spare I had that did not work. I replaced the original ic6501 and took my spare placed it in ic8002 and the tv turned on. It still is less than 24 hours but it is on. I am going to order two new IC6501 AND IC8002 and replace both and hopefully it will last. any questions or suggestions feel free to contact me at [email protected]. even if it is a long time from now I do not mind helping. Thanks everyone else for your help in figuring out a solution!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

7 blinks

Assuming the basics have been signed off, the usual reason that a set will not fire up is a power supply problem. In sets like yours the supply comes from the transistor that supplies the screen with pulses and hence high voltage. In short with a set as old as this I personally would not be bothered getting it repaired. You could probably find someone giving a working set away for free on numerous local selling websites.

Sony KD-30xs955 television won't turn on.

Anthony from Infotech posted the solution at another location:
6 and 7 blink codes 90% of the time are failure of the two control chips on the DZ board IC8002 and IC6501 both are MCZ3001D available from www.mcmelectronics.com
An ability to solder well is required to do this
Alternate solutions are to send the board to www.ptscorp.com and they will replace the chips or replace the board subject to availibility
A technician would charge $350 for this depends where you are

My fd trintron wega (kd-0xs955) will sound as if it is starting of when POWER is pressed then the red stand by blinks a few times and nothing else when it is just plugged into the wall (no cable connected)

The flashing light is "Code" for diagnostics. Count the flashes before it pauses. Some Sony user manuals will have the answer in the troubleshooting section of the manual. If you don't have your manual,
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=KD30XS955

That's the link.

Hope this helps

Sony kd30-xs955 tv has 7 blinking lignts. changed

G'Day!

Unfortunately, what you're describing is a repair issue. You won't be able to address the problem with troubleshooting. There is a part inside the TV that needs to be replaced. If you're under warranty, this will cost you nothing. If you're not under warranty the cost will likely be a minimum of $200 parts and labor. However, be warned that the cost could be considerably higher. You can purchase a new 42" TV starting at $598 from walmart.com, so anything more than $250. . . .probably not worth it.
