If Yes,Theres Nothing You Can Do Unless You Go Back To The Original Service Provider.

-try to correct the message center number in crazy jhons sim,it was found in message settings,
-also these: validity period>maximum
message senr as>text
-call settings>send my caller id>set by network

yes - optus uses a different frequency range for 3g data than what Telstra uses.
The phone you have a ZTE T303 works on 3G UMTS 850
optus 3g runs on 3g umts 700

Do you have the latest ROM installed? If it is a non-branded HTC you can look on the HTC website, otherwise you will need to check with the phone provider's website. There is a newish Radio rom which may help, I use xda-developers.com a lot, their forums have the latest and most up to date radios which may help.
