Hi to confirm that the issue is with the wireless router, try connecting the xbox directly to your cable modem or adsl modem or similar so that its directly connected to the net.

if you still receive the MTU warning, then check and see if that is adjustable on the xbox itself and if its not, then that setting is most likely in the ADSL modem and not on the router. you would have to connect to the Modem setup pages and look for MTU there, it probably is there.

let me know if you need further assistance.

I have a Motorola WR850G router which works just fine for broadband internet access for our laptop and our desktop. We are trying to connect xBox Live and we are getting an error message that Maximum...

Starting on page 3-3 of the WR850G user manual, there is a setting for "PPP MTU".
Whether or not this will change the overall MTU of the router is not clear. Apparently the default setting is "0", which I would guess is automatic. I would try changing the setting to 1500 and work your way down from there until xbox live is hopefully satisfied.
Good luck...

Connection interruption while playing xbox live

Xbox LIVE recommends using an MTU value of 1364(defaults are 1492 and 1500) on your router.

You will need to log onto your Router, go to the setup section, locate the MTU, set it to Manual, and change the Size to 1364.

If that doesn't work, you will need to clarify the following:
  1. How many machines(do you have other computers?)
  2. What router are you using
  3. Ethernet or Wireless?

Mtu settings

Two things needs to be cleared:

1) Which connection did you talking about LAN/WAN?

2) Xbox live may not be up yet, can you verify it?

Most home gateway routers can only change WAM MTU for certain connection type (PPPOE), and cannot set MTU for LAN and other WAN connection.

To change MTU for PPPOE, going to WAN connection setting, and you will see the MTU options box. But do not change it unless your ISP told you to do so.
So make sure Xbox live is online -- I am no Xbox fun so I have no idea how it works, but just guess from your message.

Mtu setting

In some cases, MTU is not necessary to adjust. Its always automatic and defaulted to 1500. The router model that you have doesn't have MTU settings. You can download the User's Manual HERE. You must do port forwarding and open the xbox live port so you can play xbox live. If it keeps on telling you about MTU, you must set static IP address on your xbox's settings and power cycle your devices.
