I was not prompted to finalize disk after copying from hard drive to DVD...

Hi, I'm new at the DVD camcorder-thing, but I just finished filming one full disk and I finalyzed it on the camcorder, as the manual advises, even though it is a DVD+RW (they suggest I finalize for transferring to my computer hard-drive).
I used the software it came with which includes Picture Motion Browser. Once I had all the film clips loaded onto my hard-drive, I used the Picture Motion Browser to save them to a regular size DVD-R and used the function for making a DVD-Video (because I wasn't sure about the other option of making a DVD data disk?). I felt pretty proud of myself for figuring all this out because it's not a stength of mine. But, the system did not prompt me or ask me to finalize my finished DVD-R after everything was copied onto it. I tried it out on my Sony DVD player and I could play it with no problems....but I'm afraid to erase everythign on my hard drive for fear that the images on my now finished disk will melt away or not play on other players because I didn't have to finalize....or is it fine because they were finalized on the camcorder originally? Confused?

    I now understand that it should be okay, but I'n not really clear on why because I thought every burned DVD was supposed to be finalized first. And if it doesn't play on another DVD (when I can find one to try it on), is there a way to do it sine I'm not prompted by the Picture Motion Browser software?

    So I checked the Picture Motion Browser Guide and the properties, but it doesn't mention finalying anywhere. I did manage to play the disk on another DVD machine just fine, so I guess I should just assume it is an auto-finalize setting somewhere...According to the Guide I did everything to the letter, did every step correctly. Just odd that they wouldn't make this more obvious rather than a hidden task that is performed.I would have thought someone else out there would have asked this same question...anyways thanks for your help.

If your DVD Player is playing burned DVD, then its OK. Before erasing dvd data from your PC, confirmation of DVD Disc on another dvd player would be fine.

    Please check motion picture picture software properties and find it might set on auto-finalize that's why not prompted for finalization of dvd.

To have the content of your mini-disks on your PC you have to finalize the DVD-RW in the camera; after that you insert the Mini-DVD in the DVD drive of your PC; after that you can use Windows Media Center (or anything similar) to copy it to the PC hard drive and create a standard DVD.
But if your video recording device came with Firewire you can directly attach the camera and copy the mini-disk content to the hard drive and edit and burn it with the Nero.

How to copy dvd to iso on mac
An ISO image is an archive file (also known as a disk image) of an optical disc in a definite format. An ISO image includes all the data of files contained on the archived CD/DVD, or any other disc format. They are stored in an uncompressed format. In addition to data of the files it also contains all the file system metadata, including boot code, structures, and attributes.

DVD Copy Mac has the ability to Copy DVD to ISO Mac, burn ISO file to an optical Disc, copy ISO file to hard disc.

Free Download DVD Copy Mac, Then install and lunch it.


Step 1: Insert DVD Disc

Launch the Copy DVD to ISO Mac program and it will remind you to insert your DVD, Then you choose the DVD-Video that you want to copy in the pop-up folder.

Step2: Select the target

You can select to copy a new DVD disc or copy to your hard disk on your Mac. Click "Start" button after finishing selecting. It can burn DVD-Video disc and save the target as DVD Folder or Image(.iso).

Step 3: Start the Mac DVD Copy to ISO

After all things done, click the "Start" button to start to Copy DVD to ISO Mac.

Step 4: Copy finished

After the copy is done, a window will appear to inform you that the copy is finished. Click "Finish" to close the window and end the Copy DVD to ISO for Mac.

I have filmed with my sony camcorder on dvd-rw 1.4 gb mini discs and it will not read on any of my computers. How do I copy these discs to my computer so I can burn them on to another disc.
Well..., First make sure that your computer has a DVD drive (I'm sure you already know)

When you take the disk out of your camcorder, do you finalize the disk?? If I don't finalize it on my camcorder then I cannot replay it on a computer or a DVD player.

Cd drive and burner are not working
Test the disc by using the command prompt to copy files loadTOCNode(2, 'whattotry'); Try to copy files from the disc to the hard disk. If the hard disk cannot copy files, the disc might be damaged. If the files are copied successfully, there may be file types on the disc that the hard disk cannot read, or there may be a problem with the CD or DVD drive.

To test the disc by using a command prompt to copy files, follow these steps:
  1. Create a test folder on the hard disk, and then give the folder a folder name such as "cdtest." This is the folder to which you will try to copy files.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. Copy and paste (or type) cmd in the Open box, and then press ENTER.
  4. Copy the files from the CD or DVD drive to the test folder on the hard disk. To do this, type xcopy DiscDrive:\*.* HardDiskDrive:\cdtest /v /e at the command prompt, and then press ENTER. Make sure that you replace “cdtest” with the name of your test folder.

    Note In this step, DiscDrive is the drive letter of the CD or DVD drive with which you have problems. HardDiskDrive is the drive letter of the hard disk drive to which you want to copy these files.
  5. If you are asked whether cdtest specifies a file name or a directory name, press F.
  6. If you successfully copied the files from the disc to the hard disk, the disc is not damaged. To remove the copied files, type rd /s cdtest at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.

    If you cannot copy the files, the disc may be damaged. Contact the manufacturer of the damaged disc to obtain a replacement.

Cannot copy disc from dx103 to pc to make dvd copies
Hi there and welcome FixYa.

Your going to need 2 things.
1) A DVD player on your pc.
2) Good DVD burning software.
And your DVD is going to have to be finalized in the camcorder before you can play it in a DVD player or a computer.

I use MYDVD from Roxio. But there are a few out there, and it just depends on the individual user as to which one you prefer.

With MYDVD, it's pretty easy, you just start the program, and follow your prompts.

We think our disks are formatted wrong some how...
Your video is merely the wrong format for the computer. Copy the video files to your hard drive, then use video editing software to save them in a different format.

Transfer my minidv camcorder film onto DVD
You need to download the movie to a computer and store it in a video file. Then you should be able to use a software program to burn it to a DVD. I use a TIVO for watching and burning my videos. You don't need a computer. You save the video by recording it to the TIVO's hard drive then after it is on the drive you DUB it to an empty DVD-R disc.
