Error message CHECK TEL LINE my phone line is connected and i followed all the right steps to connect my handset to the base HELP!

  • Anonymous Jan 17, 2013

Thanks Cindy. Had the same issue on my Uniden cordless phones. Didn't have an old fashioned corded phone so I used my Fax machine to call my cellphone & then called the home number from my cell. Both tests worked so nothing wrong with the phone lines. Swapped out the RJ-11 cable with another one I had around the house and now have a dial tone.

This sort of issue requires you to check if the base or the phone line has a problem.

I prefer to use an old corded phone for testing. I also get a new RJ-11 cable. Unplug your phone base from the jack and check for dial tone when you plug in your test phone.

If you get a dial tone on the test phone, try the new cable with your cordless phone. If you still get that message, then the phone has failed. If it is under warranty, contact the manufacturer for repairs. If it is out of warranty, then determine if it is worth fixing or replacing. These phones are not designed to be fixed by the end user.

If you do not have a dial tone, take your test phone to another jack on the phone line. Check if there is a dial tone at that point. If there is a dial tone, the problem is at the first jack or the phone line to the jack.

If you still do not have a dial tone at the second jack, find where your telephone service comes in. Open the box and determine the type of connection used. If you are lucky, it will have RJ-11 connections. Plug your test phone into the jack and check for a dial tone. If you do not have a dial tone at this point, call your telephone company. They will fix the problem for free. If you find that the connection is not an RJ-11 type, call the phone company and have them test the line and repair it if needed.

If you have a dial tone at the service box, then you have an inside wiring problem. Inspect the visible wires for damage. Open the faceplates for the jacks and check for loose wires. There are two types of connectors. Screw type connectors need the wire stripped back a little then wrap around the screw and tighten. The other type is a punchdown jack. To repair a loose wire in this, you will need a punchdown tool. These are often available in hardware/home improvement stores in the wiring section. http://www.lanshack.com/wire_phone_jack.aspx has clear pictures of the wire color to pin pattern.

You may want a professional to check the wires inside the walls. Your telephone provider will do this for a fee.

I hope this helps.

Make sure your phone line is working and that you have the wall cable plugged into the phone properly. It should say line or line 1.

Panasonic KX-T7433 CO Not Assigned Error

The "CO Not Assigned" error on your Panasonic KX-T7433 handset indicates that the Central Office (CO) line has not been properly assigned to the handset. Since you've mentioned that other handsets in your office can connect to CO-01 without any issues, the problem seems to be specific to certain handsets. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:
  1. Restart the Handset: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches. Try unplugging the handset's power cord for a few seconds and then plugging it back in.
  2. Check CO Assignment: Double-check the CO assignment settings on the problematic handsets. Make sure that the CO-01 line is correctly assigned to those handsets. Follow these steps:
    • Press the "Program" button on the handset.
    • Dial 1 (CO Line Access).
    • Dial the line number you want to assign (in your case, 01).
    • Press the "Auto Dial/Store" button to save the assignment.
    • Hang up the handset.
  3. Reset the Handset: If reassignment doesn't work, you can try resetting the handset to its default settings. Keep in mind that this will erase any customized settings on the handset. To perform a reset:
    • Make sure the handset is not in use.
    • Press and hold the "Program" button while you reconnect the power cord.
    • Keep holding the "Program" button until the handset displays "Initializing..." and then release the button.
    • The handset will restart and return to its default settings. You'll need to reconfigure any personalized settings afterward.
  4. Firmware Update: Check if there are any firmware updates available for the Panasonic KX-T7433 system. Outdated firmware can sometimes cause compatibility issues. Refer to the user manual or Panasonic's official website for instructions on updating the firmware.
  5. Contact Panasonic Support: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it might be best to contact Panasonic's customer support. They can provide specific guidance based on your model and system setup.
  6. Physical Check: Ensure that the physical connections and cables related to the CO-01 line are secure and functioning properly. A loose connection could lead to communication problems.
Keep in mind that these steps are general suggestions and may need to be adjusted based on the specific model of your phone system and any unique configurations in your office. If you're not comfortable performing these steps yourself, it's recommended to seek assistance from a professional technician or the manufacturer's support team.

Telstra cordless 301 message light flashes on handset 1 which is on the base, but the 2nd handset message light does not flash even if it is on the cradle. I have unplugged both phones several times to no...

If the message light on the Telstra cordless handset 1 is flashing, indicating a new message, but the message light on handset 2 does not flash even when it's on the cradle, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:
  1. Check message notification settings: Make sure that the message notification settings on both handsets are properly configured. Refer to the user manual or the settings menu on the handsets to adjust the message notification settings. Ensure that the notification is enabled for both handsets.
  2. Reset the handsets: Try resetting both handsets to their default settings. This can be done by removing the batteries from the handsets, unplugging the base station, and leaving them disconnected for a few minutes. Then, reinsert the batteries and plug in the base station. Allow the handsets to reconnect to the base and check if the message light on both handsets functions properly.
  3. Check the base station: Ensure that the base station is functioning correctly. Check if the base station is properly connected to the telephone line and power source. If possible, try connecting handset 2 to the base station that handset 1 is connected to and see if the message light functions on that base station. This will help determine if the issue is with the base station or the handset itself.
  4. Contact Telstra support: If the issue persists after trying the above steps, it may be best to contact Telstra support directly for further assistance. They will have specific knowledge of their product and can provide more detailed troubleshooting steps or advise on any potential repairs or replacements that may be necessary.
Remember to refer to the user manual for your specific Telstra cordless model for more detailed instructions on troubleshooting and operating the handset.

I'm not using a land line with my Panasonic KX-TGD560 and only have my cell connected to it via Bluetooth. How do I clear the "Check Tel Line" message since I'm not using a "Tel Line"?

Check Tel Line means that the phone is not getting a dial tone. Unless you connect the KX-TGD560 base to a RJ-11 phone cord going to a RJ-11 jack with a working telephone service, this message will continue.

I've never used the cell phone link without having a land line connection. The Link-to-cell option for using the handset on Cell 1 (or Cell 2) may still work. You need to have a compatible cell phone close to the base. The phone needs to be positioned where it gets good signal strength. Test this yourself.

I hope this helps.

Getting check tel line message on base unit. Checked all the plugs on handsets, but still get message.

It could be one or more of these:
- the cord that goes from the base unit to the phone company wall jack is faulty
- the cord that goes from the base unit to the phone company wall jack is not connected or is not plugged in to the base unit jack labelled 'line'
- the wall jack is not active (ie; does not have phone company dial tone)

My uniden phone is not working. All hand sets say Check Tel Line. Will not make or receive calls. Will a dead battery in one handset make all handsets malfunction? Are batteries available?

batteries are available from e-bay
one dead battery will not affect any others
all hand sets make calls and receive calls through the base unit that is connected to the landline
base unit is connected to the landline and operates any hand set that is picked up
make sure all handsets have the end call button pressed as one not pressed after use may keep a line open
call your provider to check the land line to your premises
borrow a neighbours phone and plug it into the socket and see it you get a line on their phone

We have a telephone handset and base the Gigaset A265 which is not ringing in the house but going straight to our message system on our computer via our internet provider orange. We can call out but are...

Hello.

Reset the phone:

Unplug the battery in the handset, unplug the phone line from the base and unplug the electricity from the base. Leave everything unplugged for an hour or two instead of a couple to five minutes. That way you can get more of an idea of whether your phone will work. After an hour or two plug in everything. If resetting the phone doesn't work then try the next step.

Check the surge protector:

Is the phone line plugged into a surge protector? The surge protector may have stopped working or blown a surge, a sudden burst of electricity, which may have caused the dial tone in your cordless phone to go. Unplug the phone line from the surge protector then plug it back in and see if you get a dial tone. It could be that the phone line plugged into the surge was loose or not plugged in securely.

Try a different phone plug, outlet.

Check the base:

Is the base dusty and have possible dirt in the prongs where the phone sits? Lift the base and blow off dust.

Check the handset for dirt.

Rub metal connections on handset and base:

Use a pen cap or coin and rub the metal connections on the bottom of the handset. Rub the prongs, metal connections on base.

Hope these suggestions help.

Need to change phone back to tone dialing

Here's what the manual says: Changing the Dial Mode (Tone or Pulse Dialing) (HS1 only) Your phone can communicate with the telephone network in two different ways: tone dialing or pulse dialing. These days, most phone networks use a method called tone dialing, so your phone comes programmed for tone dialing. If your phone company uses pulse dialing, you need to change your phone's dial mode. If you don't get a dial tone or can't connect to the telephone network, follow the steps below to modify your phone?s settings: With the phone in standby, press and hold [cid/menu]. Press [vol/ / ] to move the pointer to select DIAL. Press [select/channel] to set the phone to pulse dialing. Press [end]. Return the handset to the base. The handset communicates the new setting to the base, and the base activates the setting on any other handsets. Hope this helps out. K
