Water forms in the Bellows it is a rubber boot between the door the drum.. clean this out real well ..To prevent this in the future leave the door cracked open when you are done using the machine to allow it to dry out.

The washer has a terrible mildew smell. What can you do to eliminate this?

Take a rag and wipe out the inside of the door gasket. Also the best product to clean would be AFFRESH. You can purchase it at your local parts distributor or probably like lowes or home depot. Also leave your door cracked open between uses this will eliminate the mildew from building up.

Let me know if this helps

It leaves a terrible mildew smell on all of our clothes

This is a common problem for front loaders. I have been told to do the following to minimize the problem with my front loader. Some of them seemed crazy to me - but they seem to work.

1) Wipe the drum dry when done with the last load.
2) Leave the door open between washes.
3) Run a small load of hot water & bleach only (no detergent or clothes) as the last load.
4) Use only "HE" detergent. I know, it's more expensive but the "non-HE" types create excessive suds - and will not pump out at the end of the cycle very well.
5) Use a cleaner designed to help rid the washer of the smell.

Additionally, check this site for additional tips, etc.

Sud message on whirlpool duet front load washer also after washing clothes i notice a mildew smell on the clothes.

You areusing too much soap. Run a rinse cycle and use less soap next time. As for the mildew leave your door cracked open after you are done using the machine.

Whirlpool Duet Washer Problem

the shocks have been redesigned, however that does seem to be an awful coinicidence that it would happen right after( sounds more like an unbalanced load your trying to wash, perhaps only a few items?? or maybe all light clothes and a heavy item throwing off the balance, but as far as the mildew smell, make sure your using HE detergent, specifically designed for the frontloaing washers, and use this product to clean your machine. www.affresh.com

Mildew smell in washer

thers a product o the market now www.affresh.com helps too alleviate your smell issues.. you NEED to be using an HE detergent designed specifically for front loading machines, regular detergent has to much suds amd will not break down completly leavig behind a moldy/mildewy smell, its the dtergent not hte machine..2-3 tablespoons of HE detegent is all that is needed

Mildew Smell

Let me add...I was having a problem with the washer draining. I followed these instructions http://www.fixya.com/support/r385845-checking_drain_pump_in_whirlpool_duet from this website. I found two socks and they were extremely mildewed and the junk that came out smelled. It may be worth it to check and see if there is something in the pump. It wasn't very hard to do. Let me reiterate something that was mentioned...if your washer is not in a garage or somewhere you don't mind a good bit of smelly water leaking out...definitely use a shop vac first.

WHIRLPOOL DUET FRONTLOAD WASHER

I had similar problem, the front door seal can trap small items, socks, handtowels. I didnt figure this out for some months, each load of clothes had a foul, mildew smell, Check door seal for trapped clothes, run intermittent cycles with bleach only, no clothes, be sure to leave door open when not in use to air out , this will reduce smell.
