Ello. My PSP won't read UMDs. The loading

Ello. My PSP won't read UMDs. The loading icon appears at the bottom right corner when a UMD is in but the UMD icon does not appear. I checked inside the drive, tested it and found out that the laser and middle motor works fine. But it still won't read UMDs. It's a PSP-2000. Thanks in advance for those trying to help.

Most likely the laser is weak. It has been awhile since I have changed a laser in a psp. But first off you should clean the laser with a q-tip and isopropyl alcohol and dry it with the other end of the q-tip. It doesn't take much for them to not be able to read a disc. If it still doesn't work you will need to replace the laser if you aren't that great at working on electronics or very small things you need to find someone to do it for you.

SOURCE: my UMD icon dont appear when i put a game on it

I think the lens might have died permanantely, or maybe just it's temporary. I've also had the same problem, and one time I turned it on, it started working again. Wait about a day and see if it still happens.

SOURCE: HELP PSP WONT READ UMDS!!!!

hi i just fixed my sons it wasnt reading umd's every thing else worked so have a look were the threaded rod runs threw the laser, in the centre at the back of the laser there is a little tab with a stamped groove in it make sure the laser is up against the disk spinner when turned off push the tab against the threaded rod hopefully it has seated (you ned a good light plus i used long metal twesers to push it down, easier to see on 2000 model than the fat one but you can manage good luck)

SOURCE: psp not reading umd discs

The best thing to do is to check for any blockages along the laser module runner or failing that contact Sony for a repair/replacement.

Hi .... i got a PSP 3000 . and the UMD stoped working and it dosn't read that i have a UMD inside . whats the problem and what do i do? please help.

1) That UMD isn't working..
..or
2) Your UMD drive isn't working.

Either one, or both.

- If you try other UMDs... if they work, that means this UMD we're talking about here isn't working.
- If you try other UMDs... if they don't work, that means your UD drive is faulty.

If your PSP is still under warranty... then bring it back to SONY.
.. or exchange UMDs from where-ever you bought it from.
.. depends which scenario!

Is this happening with every UMD? If so the laser has gone bad. Google tutorials on how to replace it or have it replaced.

Help!

You might have PSP stop reading UMD discs, First you will do some trouble shooting with what might be wrong with your PSP unit.

first is the Disc Spinning motor. This will not let The disc in the UMD spin. On a working PSP you will hear the disc start to spin up, then you can hear the laser start to twitch, followed by the laser motor moving the laser down the rails.

2nd is something stuck in the UMD gear, try to clean the gear of arm of dust, plastic, soda, and even hair.

and at the last is the actual laser itself. It will not focus the laser to read the UMD disc.

Hopefully this help, Pls post back should you need additional information...!

Psp is not reading my umds. movies, games...etc. any umd

if you have already tried to read different umds and it still does not work.....i would suggest you remove the battery.....completely restart the unit....if at that time it still does not read umds....u either have a dirty lens or your unit is possibly faulty......you could attempt to clean with Q-tip and alcohol and retry
