1) There are two types of in-wall timers: battery-operated timers and electric-powered timers are wired differently.

The wiring on most paddle / ceiling fans id such:

White = Fan and Light neutral or "common"
Black = Fan line voltage or "hot"
Blue = Light line voltage or "hot"
Green = safety ground

If you are replacing an existing light fixture - be sure to replace the ceiling box with one designed for use with a fan - as per electrical code. If the existing box had only 2 wires (or 3 counting the ground) that connected to the old light fixture and it was controlled from a wall switch, the wiring would be fixture white to ceiling white, fixture black and fixture blue to ceiling black (or red) and fixture green to ceiling bare ground or connected to the metal box. This would power both the fan and light whenever the wall switch was on and the pull chains for each were also on. This is also the preferred wiring for replacement of a pull chain type light fixture (no wall switch present).

If there are other wires in the box that previously were not connected to the old light fixture, using a meter or tester - determine if there is constant power between the ceiling white wire and any of the these other wires (test with the wall switch on and off to be sure). If you do have constant power available, you might consider using the wall switch to control only the light, and using the pull chain to operate the fan (or vice-versa). Simply connect the black (for fan) or the blue (for light) to the "constant power on" wire and that part of the fixture will work by pull chain only - regardless of the wall switch position. If the fan can be shut off by the wall switch, it is very important that the wall switch remain a toggle (or on / off switch), do NOT replace with a dimmer type switch.

If you'd prefer to operate the fan and light completely independently of each other - you can purchase a 3rd party fan & light remote control device for between $30 - $50.

If I understand correctly you installed a new timer and it does not work.
You posted under EJ351 timer.

Problem sounds like it's electrical instead of timer.

1) Check electricity at wall box where timer is located. Remove both wires from timer. Separate wires for testing. Turn on power. Test each wire to bare ground wire. If box has power, then one wire will light up tester. This is Hot wire. Next test Hot wire to white wires inside box to make sure circuit can be completed to the neutral. If box doesn't have Not or Neutral then check other local boxes on same breaker to find where loose wire is.

2) Check that Load (light, fan, motor) is not burned out ... you can do this by putting regular light switch in place of timer. Box must test positive for Hot and Neutral wire.

3) Check that breaker is delivering 120V. Test from screw on breaker to any bare copper wire inside breaker box. Tighten screw on breaker. There is a white wire associated with black wire on breaker ... track this wire over to neutral busbar and make sure it is tight.

4) If electricity checks out, then timer is suspect. You may have gotten bad timer.

Manual say 'incandescent' light bulbs only.

What can I control with my EJ351C? The EJ351C timer is to be used with standard base incandescent light bulbs only! It should not be used to control lighting such as:

• Compact Florescent
• Energy Saver
• Flood lights
• Halogen
• Mercury Vapor
• Christmas lights
• Candelabra bulbs

If old switch has 2 wires, the Aube changes to 2-wire application
If old switch is 3-way, the Aube changes to 3-wire application, the only major change is jumper on other 3-way switch


Timer replaces ordinary wall switch:


Timer replaces 3-way switch

1) Wires in box:
Black looped to to next switch is Black hot wire
Other Black goes to fixture

2) Connect timer wires
Black timer wire goes to Black hot
Red (or Blue) timer wire goes to fixture
White wire connects to white neutral wires (usually connected together with wire nut and pushed to back of box)
Green goes to bare ground wire

I Have a decora 24 hour lcd programmable timer switch 6124, when i set the timer it doesn't go on, but it goes one a 5:00 am. when there is nothing programed?

Apparently i need to set the time first and then program timer?

Yes this does sound like a faulty timer, to be more specific it sounds like the triac device inside the timer is failing.
