I have long used Quark Express, my current version being #7. After several months inactivity, I find I have a problem. When I try to edit any imported Word .doc or similar file, I find that use of the Enter key takes me down a whole page, rather than just a line. Presumably there is a simple adjustment to make, but I can't for the life of me work out what. Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks for your interest. When I type directly in Quark I have no problem. It is when I import a doc or rich text file and then try to move text around, I find the enter key taking me down a page, not a line.

  • dowsett Jul 09, 2011

I have now resolved this problem (at least in practical terms). I find that Quark works quite normally when I use another (external) keyboard, the Enter key just moving text down one line (and not a whole page). So clearly there is a problem with the keyboard on my portable, although it is a problem that exists only in Quark, and not with any other programme. Thanks for the expert advice received.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. For the moment, with a plug-in keyboard, I can work normally with Quark on my portable. But why the problem doesn't affect other programmes, I've no idea.

Hi

Pressing shift and enter together moves you to the next page automatically, check that your shift button is not stuck, another thing to try would be to restore your Qexpress back to default settings, one way to do that would be to entirely remove the software from the computer and then set it up again.

How i can see the qxd extension file

this is Quark Express file. So to view this file, you can use it.

You can download a trial version here--http://8.quark.com/evaluation.html

You can create a PDF file from a Quark document using Acrobat. The desktop version of Acrobat comes with Acrobat Distiller which can convert the Quark file to PDF.

According to the Adobe Create PDF Online web site (http://createpdf.adobe.com/index.pl), native Quark (qxd) files do not appear to be supported for online conversion. However, the service does support PostScript (.ps) files. If you can save your Quark file as a PostScript file, then you can use the Create PDF Online service.

Hope this helps.

That when i try to open my project it says that this document cannot be opened yby this version of Quark Xpress - please help!!

This is a version problem. Not sure what version you're using but you're going to have to go at least one version higher and save down. Quark's kind of a pain about this. If you're in 4 and you have a 7 file, you need to save it down from 7 to 6 to 5 to 4. It's not at all easy or convenient.

How can I change the resolution from 1280 x 800? This is the highest possible according to the display setttings. I have removed the generic pNp monitor. I am running Vista Business. The display adapter is...

Graphics Unable to use the native resolution, such as 1920x1080, 1680x1050 and 1440x900 circuit388.gif Symptom(s):
On some displays, users may be unable to use the native resolution when using Intel® chipset graphics. Resolutions such as 1920x1080, 1680x1050, and 1440x900 are not available in graphics properties.

Cause:
The display's EDID is not read properly when connected to some digital flat panel displays. Display devices describe its capabilities by sending EDID (Extended Display Information Data) to the computer.

Solution:
Intel has released a graphics driver to specifically address this issue; however, there may be side effects to this solution such as longer than normal resume times from standby. This solution will only work with external displays such as DFP displays connected to the computer's VGA port. This driver is not designed to address issues with a notebook's built-in display (Local Flat Panel) or with TV’s connected to the system. This driver is provided as is. Intel has not tested, and does not guarantee, the operation of the driver for this purpose.

Problem with Quark QuarkXPress
How can I install my Quark 7 on my new Windows 7? All I get is 'QuarkXpress 7 requires that your computer is running Windows XP or Windows 2003. Help!

Posted by avatar15.jpgNervousFlyer on May 29, 2010

Solutions (2) Start the Windows "Program Compatibility Wizard".
Tell it that you want to install a Windows XP application.
Tell it that the software to be installed is on a CD-ROM.

I continue to be amazed that no body has found THE elegant solution I did. As a matter of fact I am using Quark 4 on Window 7, I used it on Vista (where it performed better than Vista) and on XP back at least to 98 or perhaps 95. My original install required burning a floppy (good luck with that today) for the registration. At some point, I discovered it was truly portable and simply copied the installed Quark directory to a new location (anywhere) on each new system. I dragged out a shortcut onto the desktop to the executable on every new platform. It still runs fine on this 64bit Window 7. Has not blown up yet. Something I wish I could say about other software. The only rub I found is that MS monkeyed about with associations (which worked fine in XP & Vista) and I have yet to be able to set.QXDs to Quark when I even set .QXTs to Quark.Windows 7 automatically served up In-Design as being the first (default) association in my programs list. Something I did not accept. I even tried to rewrite the registry in an attempt to make it work.
In fact, if you look into the .DLLs under Windows, you may find versions of the same .DLL that can run under 64, 32 and 16 bit environments. I suspect it will work under Windows 8 if MS doesn't leave working procedures ALONE!
