Because its an air conditioner, not a heater?

There could be several possible reasons. To list out few:

1. check t see if your system is infected with virus that is affecting system files or other related application files.
2. there might be possible reason of corrupt OS that might cause the problem. repairing the OS or re installing it might help
3.there might be a hardware issue as well. check to see if your PC/laptop is not overheating. possibly due to dust or other technical reason. all PC/laptops are designed to prevent it from getting damaged. so it stop working if something goes wrong. Also check to see if the cooling is working properly. check if the CPU fan is running or not.
4. There might be some driver issues. wrong driver might cause the device to halt while accessing the component i:e network device, bluetooth, wifi etc.

So, before giving the right solution we need to know the exact model no, OS installed, and what were you doing while the system hults.

If your water supply line is copper, check to see if it is corroded inside the line. It sounds like copper sulfate or copper chloride in the water supply. If it is corrosion build up try replacing the supply line.

Hi is this a portable model or the ones you mount onto a window? The reason I ask is that Portable ac's with a duct tubing that you stick out the window are not efficient. I bought two models from different manufacturers. They can cool down a small room only. And it wasn't even that great. Please write me back and tell me which type it is... =)

Tell me what the temperature is in your freezer. The freezer in a PSW26PS must work to keep the fresh food section cool. I would have a look at the defrost heater before I would give up on this problem. I do not deny that it is possible but it is more likely a defrost problem and if the model is a PSW26PS the defrost heater, defrost thermostat or the mother control board are the likely reason and in that order, Sea Breeze
