I keep getting the message "battery exhausted" on my Nikon Coolpix L22 camera even when I've replaced with new alkaline batteries. They are not rechargeable batteries though. I've tried checking the setting as well to be sure it says alkaline batteries but I still get the same message. Would you think this is a fault or something else I could do?

Are you using the correct type of battery? Those cheap disposable carbon batteries simply cannot power cameras. you need at least alkalines. even better- lithiums or Ni-MHs.

The L22 takes two standard AA batteries. You may use disposable alkalines or lithiums, or rechargeable NiMHs. Don't mix them, that is, use two of the same kind. If you use rechargeables, you must charge them separately; the camera is not a battery charger. You can use any brand, though I'd stick with the major brands.

Lithiums will last longer than alkalines but cost more. Rechargeable batteries cost more and won't hold a charge as long as alkalines, but can be reused.

We own a Nikon Coolpix camera as well, which uses regular AA or rechargeable AA batteries.
Assuming you have tried new batteries, (if you haven't, try new alkaline batteries), it's probably time to get a warranty replacement.

You might want to also look at the battery connections inside the camera to make sure they are clean and making good contact with the batteries.

You should notice for the camera battery type for your camera in the manual. For most camera it only support Li batteries or Alkaline batteries. You can see my tips: why camera warn low power for fully charged batteries

Nikon cameras say battery exhausted when they need new batteries, just swap out the old ones and it should be good to go.

The Nikon CoolPix 3200 has an unusual battery selection AND also needs the type of battery being used to be selected in the set up menu. The default is Alkaline, if you are not using Alkaline this function may be part of your rapid discharge. What I would suggest is to switch to a "good" set of Ni-MH batteries, generally these can be bought as a set/kit with a charger. If you have a manual what I'm referring to is on pages 18 and 19. Well, alkaline batteries don't last long in a power-draining camera like the Coolpix. Try some rechargeables and keep spares fully charged.

I don't know if I have the very same problem with my old nikon Coolpix E44600. I may go through the pictures I have already taken but when I try to take a new one, just as I shoot I get the message the "battery exausted" message and the camera shut down.
