1985 Matag Washer

I have a 1985 Matag washer. It seems I have noticed small oil stains on my clothes. Could this be from the washer and if it is how can it be repaired? I have always been able to repair this washer, what few problems it has had. Thanks Tim from Ville Platte Louisiana

Hi Tim,
I was working on a 1989 kenmore washer today and had a similiar issue. It is gross to find what causes this or maybe a long cycle w/o enough soap to hold the dirt causes the problem. The first issue was a 20 year accumulation of soap, dirt and oil plus the years turn it black on top and very oily. After one use everyone hates washer magic for not instantly curing the years of build up. It is not your fault, you don't see it and no one has told you,.. till now. This stuff will reside in the back bottom of your maytag and be 2 inches thick, ohh yeh. A good cleaner will take strategy and months of preventive work to reverse the build up. Like your veins good meds will take a while to work or if youre me I would pull the boot spring, front panel and remove the front of the tub and hose it out.

Post a not if I am wrong or give more info an I am glad to help.

Washer leaves oil type stain on clothes.what could be cause?

Stains on clothes from this model of washer are usually caused by the door boot or the tub bearing going out. I recommend cleaning off the surface of the door boot and if you still get stained clothes I recommend having the rear tub & basket checked. I am also sending you more troubleshooting tips in the image below.

Washer leaves stains on clothing

Many times when we cook in the kitchen, we get splattered with oils that aren't easily visible. Very often these oil spots pick up dirt from the wash water. These stains don't usually get noticed until after the clothes have been dried. The best thing to do is to rub detergent or stain remover right on these spots and let them sit about half an hour. Then rewash the clothes in as hot water as the material can take afterwards.

The washer seems to deposit stains on the clothes. No amount of stain remover seems to remove the stains.

just a though check inside the washer for things like paperclips, thumbtacks small pieces necklaces things like that get caught in those small drain holes and cause havoc

I am getting stains on my dark clothes that look like oil stains.

Check that the dispenser is clean, it may be gunged up with black gunge, use soda crystals and put machine on hottest wash. If all is clean it could be down to seal gone in drum letting grease into system. Good luck, let me know how it goes.

My Frigidaire Washer Leaves Stains all over our clothes

Since this happened from day 1, your water may be the problem. Do you have well water? If so, get a softener system. This will get rid of the iron, which is responsible for rust stains. I really doubt that a new machine would cause rust or grease.

Why didn't you do something five years ago when you first noticed this? It will be much more difficult to get a resolution from the manufacturer after5 years.

Clothes come out with stains on them

I had a similar problem with my Kenmore front loader. Turned out that the rubber lining around the door was trapping dirty, soapy water causing a nasty residue to collect. That residue got onto the clothes. I cleaned the rubber liner and now keep the washer door open between uses. I still occasionally wipe down the rubber liner with a wet rag. Problem seems to have been solved.

Model RTW4340SQ0 clothes waster leaves oil-type stains on clothes

Remove agitator cap. Remove bolt underneath. lift off upper agitator and lower. Look for grease under agitator and on splined shaft and clean. Re-assemble be sure to put plastic thrust piece in between upper and lower agitator.

My Kenmore heavy duty tumble washer is leaving a light brown stain on white or light clothes. It is likely staining dark clothes but of course they are too dark to see a light stain. It is definitely...

The brown stains are likely coming from the felt drum seal. The OEM adhesive is tar based - and after time and use - breaks down.

You'll need a new felt seal - and the adhesive that is used should be silicone based... eliminating the brown streaks.

Washing machine stains clothes

You can pull the agitator straight up and off to check if there is any grease / oil on the bottom of it. You may have to use a belt or similar item to slip under the agitator and attach the other end to a broom handle to pull up if it is difficult to remove. If there is grease / oil, it is not very easy or inexpensive to repair. The average life of a washer is about 9 years, so this one doesn't owe you anything. I'd look into a new front load unit which uses much less water and spins clothes out at 2X or more the RPM's of your current machine. Please don't rate this solution as anything but a FixYa rating will lower my overall score. Thanks.
