Smae problem - so loud it hurts my ears to use. Suction ok but not great.

  • Anonymous Oct 28, 2008

Terribly loud noise when turned on, but the vacuum still works pretty good. It is a beltless system... so that could not be a solution.

You might have something stuck in the motor fan like a paper clip or a bobby pin.might have picked up a coin or a nail.regardless it sounds like its in the motor fan.you need to disconnect the base from the upper half of the vacuum to get to the motor.on the top of the base on each side of the motor you will see a small plate with 2 screws on them take them out and you should be able to seperate the base from the top half of the vacuum.you will see the motor housing and on one side you will see the fan.look and see if something is stuck in the fan.if so try to get it out and put everything back together start from the last thing i explaind all the way up to the first thig i explained

I have the same problem with the same age Kenmore. I checked for clogs but there were none. The loud noise sounded like a vibration. The noise was so loud you almost couldn't be in the house when using the vacuum. What I found was, the outer rubber housing of the motor/fan was held together by electrical tape and split at the electrical tape (wow, that's a surprise!!). I taped the housing together with fresh tape but the motor housing continued to split when the filters got slightly clogged and higher pressure was generated inside the motor. I suspect that the split was causing some amount of air from the motor to be exhausted into the inside of the vacuum causing internal parts to vibrate and resonate.

I haven't been able to fix this problem. Unfortunately, the excessive vibration caused a control board to fail which controls the agitator. At this point the vacuum is useless. Poor design by Kenmore so I don't know if it can be fixed.

If you know of a solution, let me know

What does this noise sound like? If it's a squealing noise, chances are that it is a belt going bad. You can purchase a new belt at your local Sears, or probably even your local grocery/department store. The vacuum belt is easy to replace and inexpensive. Instructions for belt replacement are in the owner's manual, or sometime on the belt's package. Hope this helps... Please take a few seconds to rate how helpful this suggestion was. Thanks and good luck!

Vacuum works quietly and well when using the wand attachment, as soon as it is lowered into 'floor vacuuming' position it makes a very loud noise but doesn't seem to lose suction.

Hi Ismaias, it's Jack at Dyson.

The issue you're describing sounds unusual. If you think the noise coming from the cleaner head and brush bar is excessively loud, you might like to follow the steps shown in the video below to make sure nothing is jamming or obstructing the brush bar:

If you're confident there are no obstructions, but your machine is still sounding much louder than it should be, please do not continue to use your machine. At this point, it would be best to contact the Dyson Customer Helpline directly so we can provide further assistance. If a repair or a replacement part is needed, we can also confirm if this is covered under your Dyson warranty.

Making loud high pitched noise and no suction. Belt seems fine

Sounds like something is clogged/blocking the intake hose. Pull off your bin & see if you can feel/see anything blocking that hose that everything goes thru.

My Kenmore bagless intelliclean vacuum is making a loud noise mainly when it is vacuuming on the highest setting (when the light is red). We have taken it apart and cannot find a clog. It has also lost...

This might help, it was posted on a previous problem but is the same issue you are having it seems: "Here is a possible solution. If the vacuum sounds normal when the green light comes on, then the issue is a suction bypass. Kenmore built a suction bypass in to help cool down and protect the motor should someone either never clean the filter, empty the canister or somehow manage to clog the hose. There is a spring holding the bypass closed and is overridden by vacuum suction. I guess the spring becomes weak, allowing high suction to pull it open which in turn reduces suction so it closes again. It can do this several times per second making a loud racket and slightly affecting performance until the sensor goes green, then the vacuum suction is too low to overcome the spring tension thus why it sounds fine then. The trick? The very hard way (what I did) was to open the vacuum, open the casing where the spring is and pull it apart slightly to increase the spring tension. The easy way is to put tape over the hole where the bypass is. The inlet is under the hose track on the back on the right side as you're looking at it. The hole is about the size of a quarter and you'll see fins across the hole. The tape would keep the suction. The motor would still pull back the bypass but since tape is applied, there would be nothing to reduce the suction thus keeping performance and reducing the noise. However, this circumvents the intended design so you do so only at your own risk."
