My phone powers on ok. But the keyboard is locked and a yellow star appears next to the volume icon. My phone is not receiving calls or messages. I have reset it several times with no success. Last time i got the following message: Uncaught exception: Index 4>=4 Kindly assist. Thanks.

The Star is one of the new features (in Lollipop) and is called "interruptions" mode , which can be activated in settings. If the interrupt mode is activated as "Priority" , the star icon in the status bar of your Android smartphone appears. "Priority" in the "Interruptions Mode" means that only calls and notifications appear , which you have previously considered as important.

For the classification, navigate from the home screen of your Android smartphone:

Menu --> Settings --> Sound & Notifications --> interruptions

Now you know what the the star stands for in and how you can set settings in interruption mode. To turn interrupt mode off quickly, press once on the volume button and then select from

- None
- Priority
- All

the entry "All". Finished!

The star icon is now hidden and the interrupt mode disabled in Android lollipop.

Is it the hard reset?I.e restore to factory settings?

Power off the phone.
Hold the X key on the keyboard until you see a yellow triangular icon appear.
Close the slider and hold down the volume up button and don't let go.
Press the camera button while still holding the volume up button.
Wipe data/factory reset will appear on the screen.Scroll to select.

Note that this will erase all data including any Apps you would have installed.

Main Menu Settings Sound Profile Find your selection (example "Normal") Hit the "OK" button Then there are three categories to choose from on this next screen (call, message, phone) use the left/right keys around the "OK" button to choose which one you want. Keep hitting the down key until the writing in the yellow menu says "volume" Hit "OK" From there you can adjust the volume
If you want to adjust call volume, highlight "call" with the left/right keys Use the down key to go in the yellow area and keep pressing the down key until you see "ringtone volume" then hit "OK" and it gives you an option to adjust ringtone volume

1. Power off the phone, press and hold camera button ( do not release), press power button until phone turns on.Release power button while holding camera button down.
   
2. Release the camera button when prompted (following the Batwings boot screen).
   
3. Press the volume down button and wait for 15 seconds for a "triangle !" to appear on the screen. ( message "volume up key pressed " will appear )
   
4. With flip closed, tap bottom right corner of darkened display (just above back button).
   
5. Select "wipe data / factory reset" on screen
   
6. Press "Ok". Wait for "data wipe complete" message to appear
   
7. Press "reboot system now"
   
8. Press "Ok" . Phone will reboot and complete master reset function

this should do the trick...press star, call button(the green one), three, and power button all together while powering up your phone..
