What Model of XBOX is this?
If it is not the 360 or the slim it will no longer work on live.
Microsoft phased them out last month.

Setting up xbox live

ARRIS modem is a phone/hsi modem. What youll need to do is first turn power off on xbox then unplug the power supply from the back of the Arris modem and unscrew the coaxil/cable wire from the back of the modem for about a minute. Then plug in the power cord to the modem wait another half minute then screw in the coaxil/cable wire....wait for the lights to come back on make sure the online light is solid green not flashing and follow the ethernet cable (Looks like a thick telephone wire) and make sure you have that ethernet cable seated/snapped into the ethernet port on your xbox. Then turn the xbox on and do connection test. FINISHED..IF it's still not working make sure you have Internet service from your provider and if using a router bypass it at first see if you can get onto xbox live without the router. If you can with just connected directly to your arris modem without the router involved. If you do want to use wireless contact your router manufacture and or xbox support at 800-469-9269.

I have a Cayman 3347w wireless router and I am trying to use one of the wired slots to connect my xbox 360 to the internet. the xbox will not connect. is this router xbox compatable?

Please try the following steps below;

To make a router connection to Xbox LIVE:
  1. Before you connect any cables, turn off your router, modem, PC, and Xbox 360 console. (Unplug your modem from its power source to turn it off.)
  2. Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on your modem and the other end to the Ethernet input port on the back of your router.
  3. With another Ethernet cable, connect one end to one of the router's Ethernet output ports. Connect the other end to your PC's Ethernet port.
  4. With the third Ethernet cable, connect one end to another of the router's Ethernet output ports. Connect the other end to the Ethernet port on the back of the Xbox 360 console.
  5. Turn on your modem, then your router, then your PC.
  6. Make sure your PC can access the Internet. If not, you may need to configure the router for Internet access. For help configuring the router using your PC, check the instructions that came with the router.
  7. Turn on your Xbox 360 console and sign in with your profile.
  8. If this is the first time you've turned on your Xbox 360 console, see Create Your Gamer Profile to get started with both the Xbox 360 system and Xbox LIVE play.
If you're unable to connect to Xbox LIVE, you can try to diagnose the problem right on your console. Go to My Xbox and open System Settings, then select Network Settings (setup XBOX using Automatic Configuration DHCP), Test Xbox LIVE Connection.

Hope this helps!

Have the n+ wireless router/modem trying to connect via a cable to xbox live but keep gettin insufficient MTU even though the actual MTU of the router is higher than required

You may have to use trial and error to find the best MTU fit:

MTU Default of 1500 to 1492
Tart the setting the MTU @ 1400

MTU setting. Xbox LIVE requires a minimum MTU setting of 1364.
The information your console sends and receives is broken up into "packets" for transmission over your network. MTU is a setting that controls the size of these packets. If it's too small, you won't be able to connect to Xbox LIVE.
Top Solutions Try these solutions in order. If you give each one a shot and you still can't connect, contact Xbox Customer Support. Note that they will ask you try the suggestions on this page first.
Solution 1: Check your router MTU settings Xbox LIVE requires a minimum MTU setting of 1364. Usually, you can change your MTU setting from your router configuration web page, which is supplied by your router manufacturer.
Learn how to find and use your router configuration page
Look for the MTU setting on the router configuration page. When you find it, set it to Auto or 1364 (or higher), save your settings, and then try to connect to Xbox LIVE again on your console.

Solution 2: Connect directly to the modem If your router's MTU is set correctly, try bypassing it by connecting your console directly to the modem. This will help determine whether there's a problem with your router or something else on your network.
Note
This may require you to move your console to a location close to your modem. This is a temporary arrangement, meant only to troubleshoot your connection. If your console is connected wirelessly, you'll need an Ethernet cable for this step.
To connect your console directly to your modem (wired connection):
  1. Find the Ethernet cable that runs between your console and the router.
  2. Unplug the cable from the router, leaving it connected to the console.
  3. Find the Ethernet cable that runs between the router and the modem.
  4. Unplug the cable from the modem, and plug the cable from your console in its place.
To connect your console directly to your modem (wireless connection):
  1. Unplug the USB connector for your adapter from the console. The adapter can remain attached to the console.
  2. Plug an Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on the back of the console.
  3. Find the Ethernet cable that runs between your router and the modem.
  4. Unplug the cable from the modem, and plug the cable from your console in its place.
Try to connect to Xbox LIVE again. If it works, there may be an issue with your router. Double-check the MTU setting in solution 1 above. Also confirm that you're using a compatible router, and make sure it has the latest updates from the manufacturer. If the problem persists, you may want to try a different router.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

X Box 360 can't connect in hotel room!

I figured it out! I am also in a hotel room with only ethernet...and can connect to the network but not to the internet. When I got onto the internet for the first time on my laptop, there was a hotel internet webpage that came up immediately. You have to click CONNECT for 24hrs; 48; 1 week etc. unfortunately for us, Xbox doesn't have a internet browser like the PS3 does. So we can not click CONNECT when we are attempting to connect on the 360. The only reason why I know this is correct is because my friend brought his PS3 to my hotel room and that hotel connect window popped up and immediately we were playing Modern Warfare 2 with "full bars"...Xbox should really add a download for a browser! Like 360 way more. Sorry guys!

Make sure your modem or router is compatible with XBOX. I think Microsoft has a lost of working modems and routers. If this is all clear, connect the eth.cable to the modem/router. Power up the modem FIRST then the xbox. All this without any cd/dvd in the tray.
Usually as simple as that...
