If you tried already removing the driver of your sound card from the device manager and re-installing its driver or updated it. Possible reason for not working is that your speaker might damaged already. In that case you go to the nearest service center of your laptop for servicing the said problem.

Check if the sound is coming from headphones or headset
Go to Start and type soundrecorder and record the sound and check if working.

Go to start, type device manager, check for sound, uninstall the driver and restart the machine and check.

Try
1. Remove the audio driver and reinstall it. (My Computer right-click > Properties > Device Manager > Audio Devices > Reinstall Drivers)
2. Check if some other software which you are using is controlling the audio driver. (Restart in Safe mode and see if the sound is working)
3. Take expert help from a technician..You sound card might have stopped working.

I rebooted my laptop but sound is gone now. i was told il need the CD to upload sound onto my laptop but i do not hav one with my laptop?

Not entirely true. You will need to re-install the sound driver. This usually comes on the CD that came with your laptop. If that is not available then goto internet and search for it by model number.

Sound driver gone after formatting

You need to download the audio driver from the Compaq/HP WEB support/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the XP or Vista Windows version of the drivers you require and install them. Click on this link to download the drivers: -

I have an ABS laptop. I have gone into control

First make sure nothing is muted.
Start>Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices

If nothing is muted, and your volumes are up and still no sound, try updating your audio drivers,

Start>Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Sound Video and Game Controllers

Right click your audio drive and select Update driver.

I used to have sound but now its gone, and i cant

Go into device manager & see if the sound card/audio has a yellow"?". If it does,it may have dropped the driver. You can re-download it from dell. Try external speakers, see if you have sound. Write back.
