There is a small switch that detects when the lamp cover is securely tightened down, so that it protects the user from the high voltages, hot surfaces, excessive bright light in the eyes, and damage to the face if the lamp implodes due to old age and overuse.
so check if the switch operates when a toothpick is pushed up and down in the cavity. This model suffers this problem when the cover is slightly warped with old age.
so put a strip of folded paper between the cover plastic protusion that actuates the switch and the switch and secure the cover and see if this is all that is needed to activate the switch properly.

if it now works, you can try putting a small drop of silastic on the cover protusion and wait till it sets over several hours in order to lengthen it slightly so that it reaches the switch properly

Good Day, I have 3 sony ex3 projectors - 2 of which have an intermittent lamp/cover error where the lamp/cover led blinks and the machine does not light. The problem is still there even after i press...

The small lamp cover dimple that is supposed to activate the protection switch doesnt reach the switch if the cover is slightly curved due to age and heating.
So I put a small dob of silastic on the dimple of the lamp cover and let it set for 24 hours. Then I put the cover back into the unit and all is OK.

In your testing, make sure you are pressing the switch down manually before you power up the unit.
Then the error message is not likely to be a cover error message.
If you still get the error then I would check the integrity of the switch mechanically and electrically. Check that the connector from the switch to the pcb is OK.

Sony VPL-EX3 projector on/off switch flashes green then turns red and the lamp/cover light is orange. Does this mean the lamp needs replacing or could it be caused by some other factors?

Possible that the lamp is faulty -if the hours have elapsed- check the lamp holder, the fitments.
check also the filters, clean and reset.
Make sure the power supply Unit is not having any poor soldering or faulty components to reduce the voltage output to the lamp thus making it shut down..

you may have to reset the lamp hour meter to get it to work, put the projector on stanby and press the remote buttons, reset - back - forward - reset, (this is the code for a vpl hs20 projector it may be slighty different for your model)

Sony CS5 Wont turn on

the cover switch is probably not fully made.
Ensure that the cover tangs are pushing the pin
on the miniswitches.
Try putting slight pressure on the fan or lamp cover to see if the lamp/cover light
stops flashing.
you will need to do a restart on the PJ to check this out
