If it's like the DM-420, you have to read in the instructions to 1. put the device in 'Hold' and 2. then press the stop key and while keeping the stop key down, 3. plug the usb cable into the device. You'll still get the "Please Wait (Remote)" message but you'll also get the Orange LED charging light to turn on and the word "Charging" will appear at the top of the display with the universal "battery is charging" icon.

Press the HDD and DVD bottons on the player at the same time it will then show DR2 when remote is pressed. Press mode key and the number 2 key on remote, this should now work
Sounds more like it won't record ANY of your CD tracks. Is there any indication why? Are you sure it has audio coming in? Many CD recorders will automatically stop recording if they sense extended silence.
Turn on = Play + Menu (at the same time) Turn off = Stop (will revert to just clock) Selecting folders or changing options = Turn on then press menu to move through options and use the forward and backward buttons to change within options Deleting a file within a folder = Select the folder through menu options (A or B) then exit menu (cycle through all options or press stop once while in menu) then press the forward key to cycle through files within folders (1 or 2) then press delete once to display "Del" next to file then press delete a second time to delete file. Take batteries out to quickly reset recorder (will not lose saved files)
