Just add the same problem. You need a HD set top box, supplied by your cable co. Your picture quality will depend on the strength of the HD signal. If you have correct box and signal, you may need to double click your remote select button to activate HD channels/

We have a digital tv but an anologue vcr so we bought a strong srt 5430 so we can record through our vcr but are having trouble conecting the vcr and set top box

You need a cable to go between the yellow (picture), red and white (sound) sockets on the strong to the VCR.

Those cables will connect to one of the VCRs AV inputs. You then need to use the VCR remote control to switch from the now defunct analogue tuner to the Line or AV input. Put your TV on the channel you use to watch video tapes. Switch on the Strong receiver. Do the switch to the Line or AV input on the VCR. When your VCR is on the correct input then you will see the picture from the Strong receiver on the TV. You can confirm it is the correct source by displaying the Strong's EPG.

When you come to make recordings, the Strong will need to be left on the channel that you want to tape. If your TV already has an aerial feed and isn't relying on the strong for its signal then you can watch another channel on TV.

Cable in my area has switched to digital cable. I own a Hitachi HDTV about four years old. When I scan my channels it will only scan analog channels...the digital channels are an option but I don't...

Unfortunately, you need a set-top box. The Hitachi 65F59 has an ATSC (digital OTA) and NTSC (analog) tuner. It doesn't have a clear-QAM (unencrypted digital cable) tuner.

There are a few DVR set-top boxes with QAM tuners that you can buy separately. (You will need to make sure a given model is compatible with your service. FIOS uses a different option on the Cable Card than other providers.) Alternatively, you can get a cable box from your company.

Retrevo has the manual for this Hitachi TV here: http://www.retrevo.com/support/Hitachi-65F59-TVs-manual/id/371ci977/t/2/ . You will need to enter a code to access the PDF.

If you want OTA HD, you will need to determine the correct antenna for your area and the direction to the transmitters. (External antennas pick up more stations. In some areas amplification may be needed to get a good signal.) See antennaweb.org or tvfool.com for searches on the appropriate antenna to get a signal and where to point the antenna. Antennaweb assumes an external antenna but is very conservative in the received channel list. You would need to set the TV signal input to Air and rescan for channels if you choose to go with the OTA signal.

I wish that I had better news for you.

I need to unlock my Platinum Telefunken set top box. My remote won't work at all and I put new batteries in and it's not that. The green light is on "Lock" on the actual set top box....

I have the same problem, but with no picture at all on my HD Channels. All I did was to retune my TVs analogue channels and bingo I got all my HD Channels back. My HD Set Top Box is still showing as locked.

How do I get the free digital channels on my tv?

One way you can get free high quality digital channels is an HD antenna. In recent years, the government stopped broadcasting analog (non-HD) signals, and instead pumped out HD. They advertised their "converter box", that made it possible for people receiving their TV channels from antenna, to get HD.
If you currently have an antenna that you prefer to use, you can buy a converter box here.
But, the solution that in the end will get you more channels is a new HD antenna. They range from extremely powerful roof antenna's, to average tabletop antenna's. A roof antenna has more distance, but can be more hard to set up compared to the tabletop ones.
You can buy a variety of tabletop ones Here
Or, you can choose outdoor Here
You can learn to set it up Here
If your TV doesn't have HD capabilities ("HDTV") than you will need a converter box, which can buy at the link above ( or here.).
Hope this helped!

How do you set the time on a Strong SRT 5429

You don't actually need to set the time. You choose the time zone you are in and the box takes the time from the channel.

You have a really nice TV, you have a built in ASTC tuner(digital).
