I have Darwin Desktop 7.0 for Quark Xpress on the Mac. My dongle burnt out. I need a new dongle or a license key that doesn't require a dongle. Can you help?

Creo was bought by Kodak and is no longer supporting Darwin Desktop. I have contacted their tech support already and they don't have any solutions. Any other ideas?

Darwin is not being supported by Creo any longer, so contacting Creo is not going to help. I need a new Dongle for Darwin Desktop 7.0 for Quark Xpress - Mac. Anyone have an idea how to get this?

  • Anonymous Jun 28, 2011

The product is no longer supported by Kodak which bought Creo who developed Darwin. Obviously it they still supported the Darwin, I wouldn't need to ask anyone on this website.

I would say try and find a copy of Darwin Desktop 7 on eBay or similar, but I looked and found nothing. Creo's site still has for sale Darwin Desktop, so the only solution I see to this problem is to purchase the new Darwin Desktop from Creo's site, here:
http://www.creo.com/data/Products/Workflow%20Solutions/Darwin%20VI%20authoring%20tool/desktop.aspx

Click on How to Buy to contact Creo about purchasing this software.

Else, if you know someone who owns a copy of this software, see if you can purchase from them.

I’m happy to help further over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/jeremy_69f3cc28d95bf514

Hi, For your requirement, you have to purchase either dongle or a license key. To purchase contact with nearest Darwin dealer or retailer. Or you can visit Darwin website or Kodak product website. Check their product and choose your product or a key which don't need dongle. Purchase it by your credit card from shopping cart.

Hello, Bob.

I'd suggest contacting CREO (from their site):

Send in your dongle serial number and request a licence key number for the Darwin version you want. For further information on obtaining the license key number, write to [email protected] or see www.creo.com/Darwin

Hope this helps.

Sorry - sounds like a difficult situation if no one is supporting your software. One can only get licenses, etc. from the manufacturer.

Overprinting quark xpress demo on all documents

Enter a valid product key. If Quark Xpress doesn't nag you for the key with an automatic dialog box, you will probably find the registration info entry in Preferences. If you have already entered the key, something corrupted the key file, so try entering it again.

I purchased Quark Xpress back in 1990 or so, and the installation discs were the old 3 1/4 discs. I paid for updaters, and at updater 6.1, I still have the Quark CD, but some of the original Quark Xpress...

I continue to be amazed that no body has found THE elegant solution I did. As a matter of fact I am using Quark 4.1 on Window 7, I used it on Vista (where it performed better than Vista) and on XP back at least to 98 or perhaps 95. My original install required burning a floppy (good luck with that today) for the registration. At some point, I discovered it was truly portable and simply copied the installed Quark directory to a new location (anywhere) on each new system. I dragged out a shortcut onto the desktop to the executable on every new platform. It still runs fine on this 64bit Window 7. Has not blown up yet. Something I wish I could say about other software. The only rub I found is that MS monkeyed about with associations (which worked fine in XP & Vista) and I have yet to be able to set.QXDs to Quark when I even set .QXTs to Quark.Windows 7 automatically served up In-Design as being the first (default) association in my programs list. Something I did not accept. I even tried to rewrite the registry in an attempt to make it work.

In fact, if you look into the .DLLs under Windows, you may find versions of the same .DLL that can run under 64, 32 and 16 bit environments. I suspect it will work under Windows 8 if MS doesn't leave working procedures ALONE!

Can you run quark 4.1 under windows 7

Please! I am using Quark 4.1 on Windows 7 64 bit just as I did on 98, XP and Vista. Without a floppy, I had to copy the installed Quark directory to newer platforms then drag out a shortcut to the desktop. I just published some work to embellish in Acrobat 10. The installer doesn't work; Quark does! I expect it will work in Windows 8 if the MS programmers don't screw with procedures that work fine now.

Error 1720. Trying to install Quark 6.1 on Windows 7

I definitively solved this problem. Follow these steps:
1) Install first Quark Xpress 6.1 on a Windows XP PC.
2) Copy the entire directory of installed files (Normally c:\program files\quark) on a pen drive.
3) Install Quark Xpress 6.1 on your Windows 7 PC until the installation stops with 1720 error.
4) Abort the installations, then copy the Quark directory stored on your pendrive in c:\programs x 86 directory overwriting the existing one.

This way Xpress 6.1 works perfectly on a Windows 7 PC. Guaranteed!

You should be able to if you are using quark license administrator as QLA uses the ethernet address commonly known as the MAC address and this is hard wired on the computer and not the hard drive to verify the license.

Solutions (2) Start the Windows "Program Compatibility Wizard".
Tell it that you want to install a Windows XP application.
Tell it that the software to be installed is on a CD-ROM.
