Foul smell coming from behind the refrigerator. I smell it coming through the fan on the back of the refrigerator. I believe it could be the drip pan, but I don't know where it is located. Also, my ice cubes tend to have a mildew smell and taste. It is not all the time. It seems to be ok for a while and then the ice is bad and I can't use it so I put the ice down the sink. I have a bottom drawer freezer.

The drip pan is usually on top of the compressor or has a draw underneath with a coil to create heat for evaporation of water from the drip pan. Some time a rodent can drown in this location.

SOURCE: strange taste in ice cubes

Did you use new water lines? If you did then clear the icecubes from the tray and use an appliance store cleaning solution to wash it out with. their solution is designed for fridge use and wont leave an after taste......Rinse well...... Also for awsome Ice......Install a large in-line water filter.... Makes mine taste like frozen mountain spring water with no nasty taste or smell. Hope it works for ya!

SOURCE: Large ice block is forming behind the fruit drawer.

i assume you have a model 650 or 550. Your drain line has clogged then frozen. You need to defrost the ice then clear the drain line. I usually knock a majority of ice away then defrost the rest. Once you have defrosted the line you need to clear it. I use high pressure nitrogen to blow them out, but a turkey baster will do just fine. Fill the turkey baster with water, disconnect the drain line from the drain trough. While holding the baster into the drain line squeeze the bulb to force the water into the line. It may take a couple of tries. Reconnect the drain to the drain trough and you should be all set. If you let this go too long the insulation may be saturated and you will have to have a tech install a drain tube heater kit. If you have questions call the factory at 800-222-7820 or go online to the locator page: http://subzero.com/locator/locator.aspx?type=0&zip=Zip%20Code

SOURCE: smell fish odor when fan comes on.

Tim, Clean the refrigerator completely with clorox and water. Unplug and remove the rear panel in the back of refrigerator and wash the evaporator coil with this solution. Check the amount of flow to the condensate pan below. The drain line has the gel and this contaminated smell from top to bottom and you will need to insure that all the smell remaining in the drain is draining freely and decontaminated with the clorox. Do these things and wash the remaining pan below the best you can and you will be set to go.

SOURCE: bad smell from the back

Any drippings in back may cause a funny smell with water settling behind the refrigerator. Pull your refrigerator out from the wall and trace the smell. Maybe your waterline needs to be cleaned.

Foul odor from back area of fridge/Kenmore bottom freezer

I had the same problem, but just fixed it. I have a maytag bottom freezer and when the fan blower comes on, there was a foul/stale smell that permeated the kitchen. There is no drip pan that I could remove to clean.

I just removed four screws from the back cover of the fan blower area, reached in with a small cup of organic odor remover and poured it into the drip pan just under the fan blower.

Any odor remover would work. probably vinegar or enzyme odor remover would work, too.

I now have fresh smell when the fan blower comes on.

Foul odor from beneath the frige!

You have a couple possibilities. Either something spilled in the frig and ran down into the drip pan or you have a dead critter under there. The pan is not removable and cleaning it is a pain. take a good look under there from the back and the front.

Water leaking from under refrigerator

The drip pan is located from behind the refrigerator. You have to take the cardboard off and unplug the unit. You will see the drip pan with the fan unit on top of it.

Nasty smell in garage.....think its coming from refrigerator

It's either the drip tray which is removeable from the front, or, mice are playing in the drip tray under the compressor. Soak in up, rinse with some ammonia water & repeat a few times. Rinse well when done. Line up some sticky traps behind the fridge. The mice found a playground amd they will return.
