Hello, Update the driver of your dvdr so that you can make sure that the operating system is communicating with the dvd. You can use RadarSync to automatically update the driver. David
There are principally two chief causes for this type (calibration) of burn failure:
Inadequate quality media (disks).Verbatim is always a solid choice. However, more important than the brand-name disks are sold under, is the actual manufacturer. You can determine this with the aid of a little software tool called "DVD Identifier". There is an entire sub-culture devoted to tracking the best media available, right down to the manufacturing lot level.
Drive failing.Since you say that it works consistently otherwise, this option is unlikely.
Good luck, and please do post back ...

It looks like from error codes that yoi may have a hardware error, or a disk format problem, if this is only burning problem you have on pc and it worked before, then uninstall and reinstall Nero, info gathered from here, http://www.isobuster.com/help.php?help=305
sense code 5 ASC 2c= 5 / 2C / 00 COMMAND SEQUENCE ERROR
5ASC2700=5 / 27 / 00 WRITE PROTECTED Please give good rating if this helps you or points you in right direction, thanks
there are a lot of similar issues out on the net about this, dells computers I would switch to nero or any other burner software and see if it clears up, you might want to contact dell about it as well as I can see by the net forums its wide spread, could be a limited use lic issue.
Check that the writable DVDs you are using are compatible (+/-) with your Sony DVD-RAM.
Go to Windows Explorer and check to see if the Sony drive is visible. It may not be connected or the Jumper switch may be set incorrectly.
Check you have drivers installed, take a look in Hardware manager.
Sometimes, it's a little difficult to copy CDs and DVDs when you have more than one burning suite installed - for some reason, they 'just don't get along'. Try uninstalling any suites other than Nero.
Or it may just be that your Sony CD-RW drive is just that, and your DVD-RW drive is just that. So it wouldn't be possible to write DVDs on the CD-RW and CDs on the DVD-RW? Though I would assume Nero would detect that and use your hard-drive as temporary storage.
In Nero SmartStart, have you selected the CD or DVD tab to correspond to the project you're burning?
