May be you recorded it on LP, LP recording are sensitive to interchangeability issues or it could beyour JVC's LP heads are weak. If you have an idea on how to adjust pole base, try to adjust supply side on your JVC(left side pole base) while playing and observe the sound while adjusting it. Be careful not to touch parts at the sorroundings,pay a lot of attention while doing this. If you do not have background in this field, let the pro do the job. Good luck

Good news awaits.

Go onto JVC site and check, there has been a recall on these cams and although it ran out in DEC 2009, they are collecting mine for a free repair on Mon 28th June 2010.

Make sure you use new batteries if yours are over two years old.

Do I need a driver so that Windows XP recognize my JVC GR-D850 when I connect it thru USB port? If I need, where can I get it?

I found a Fix for vista with my GR-D850 jvc the Startech.com (3 port IEEE-1394 firewire PCI Card) works on vista when installed the pci card I was able to down lowed to windows movie maker with no problems.
