Hi, I have my Speakers in properly, I have "SUR. LR" set to "lrg" and all my speakers. I go to basic setup, set it to 5 speaker, it does the test and they are all working properly and make sound. I then hit enter on "ok" and on the display it goes back to just the front Left and right. I had it working a few days ago but I unplugged it to move it, now its just not working. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated, it is really annoying me.

Hi, We just discovered in chat session that receiver is defective and left speaker has no sound, please take it in local repair shop for visual check and repair. Thanks.
If you only have sound from the front left and right speakers when it's set to STRAIGHT, it means the audio source is only 2 channel stereo. As the audio source is from Blu-Ray, the audio should be HD if you are using the correct type of audio cable.
I really need more information from you to give a definitive answer. If you are only using a RCA type audio cable (red/white plugs) from the Blu-Ray to the Yamaha receiver then you will only get left and right front channels on the STRAIGHT setting. This receiver does not have HDMI, so you really need to be using a digital optical audio cable to get true 5.1.
Please can you let me know how the BD player is connected to the Yamaha receiver if you need further assistance.
Check that the Blueray isn't set to downsample to stereo. Your receiver could also be set on stereo. Do you have a "sound" button where you can cycle through different modes?
LCD will display which speakers are active. And this depends on 2 things: the source signal and decoder mode. If source signal is stereo, only front L+R speakers are used. For 5.1 signal (for example DVD over HDMI / optical/coax spdif) all speakers installed (which are not set to None) are used. To listen to stereo input signal using all speakers, switch decoder to enhancer mode.
its not how there connected its in your settings. rehook up all your speaker connections properly, then make sure you proram the reciever to recieve fiber optic, hdmi, digital coax etc in the reciver.
Let's go through some steps that will help alleviate your problem. We'll start from the simple to the not so obvious:
1.- Perform a visual inspection on the back of the receiver and verify that all speaker connections (specially the surrounds) are not loose, shorting out another connection or are pushed too deep into the speaker connector so the wire insulation prevents proper contact. If this is not the problem then... 2.- Get into your receiver's "Manual Setup" and verify that your surround speakers are set either to "SML" or "LRG" but not "NONE". 3.- Verify the receiver is not in "Straight" mode, shown on the receiver's display. I f so, press the "Straight" front panel button until indication disappears.
Your owner's manual can give you detailed information to access the setup menus. Hope this information helps. Let me know if we can further assist you.
I had the same problem. Set the reciever on 6 channel stereo. On this setting, you should be getting the same sound out of each speaker. Isolate which speakers aren't getting sound. Now, on your speaker switch (the A/B button), select A. If that doesn't fix it, select B. If that doesn't fix it, try A and B (if you can on your reciever).
Now, when you switch back to pro-logic, make sure your a/b channel switch is in the position that worked in 6 channel stereo. Yamaha recievers have a memory, and when you switch various modes, it makes auto adjustments based on what you had set in the past.
ive got same problem can run the test but it just resorts back to 2 channell in stead of five channel like selected
