Hi, my television's picture goes in and out.. and when it does, the stand by light (red) flashes on and off. I am still able to hear sound, but there is no picture every thirty seconds or so for about 30 seconds, if not longer. Is this something I can fix myself?

4 blinks notifies the back light failure . could be the back light inverter board or faulty capacitor on power supply board.have added the image of back light inverter. Also added the picture of the power board. On the picture the capacitors marked with red should be replaced first. If shows the same complaint even after that then you have to change the back light inverter board.
No solution for you...but I have the same problem. I also had the green blob problem which sony fixed earlier this year. It happens on an intermittent basis. Screen goes off, standby light blinks green, then comes back on. Its off for maybe 1-2 min.
There is a real good chance that the lamp fan is not turning. If you look with a flashlight in the vent on the left side looking at the rear of the set and have someone turn on the unit, see if it spins. if it doesnt, the protect circuit in the tv will not let the set turn on. Replacing the fan will cure the proplem if it is not turning.

turn tv on picture comes up 2to3 seconds later tv blacks out then stand by red light flashes 4 times in a row repeatedly..can not turn on or off when stand by light starts flashing but before tv blacks out you can turn tv on and off repeatedly and picture and sound work.You have to unplug power cord for 30 seconds after stand by light comes on to get tv to turn on.
