If you have made sure all of the sensors are clear, and the moving parts (wheels, beater brush, etc) are free, then it could be a software issue.

Dyson dc50 the roller head stops spinning after

Hi, it's Jim from Crucial Vacuum!

One of the main reasons most brush rollers begin to get jammed and eventually not turn would be due to a clog. Turn off the vacuum and flip it on its side. Is there any noticeable debris, such as hair or large carpet fibers? If you're looking to clean out your brush roll do the following. For the DC50 there should be a red button below the vacuum and just above the brush roll. Push this red button, this will allow the brush roller to be removed. On the brush roller itself you'll notice two more similar looking red switches. Flip these up allowing you to remove the top of the roller and gain access for cleaning. Clear out any debris and try rotating the brush roll once around to see what else may fall loose. Take note of how the bristles look too. Are they worn down and loose? If so it may be time to change your roller.

Another item to check would be your vacuums belt. If this is loose as well it can affect your vacuums brush roll. Both are simple and easy fixes and can be done in just a few minutes.

Why is there no vacuum suction but the motor runs, agitator turns and self propelled works and bag is new?

Most likely there is a blockage somewhere in the air flow path. Check this starting at the bottom just behind the agitator brush roller and where the hose connects to the bag at the other end. Somewhere along this path you'll find something blocking the hose/duct. Otherwise you might have a broken blower fan on the motor, but that is less likely.

Loss of suction

If it is running and you have no suction, there has to be a clog in the dirt path. To clear it, start at the head of the vacuum (where the dirt goes in) take apart or disconnect everything you can along this path until you arrive at the bag or cannister. Take pics with your cell phone so you can reassemble it. Hoses: run a broom handle through all hoses to assure they are clear. If you have a shop vac or similar, try applying vacuum to all parts of your disabled vacuum in reverse. Are there filters on your machine? Make sure they are clean. You probably don't have hoses connected, but if you do, check them as I said.

I pick up vacuums along the road all the time. Very few are more than a few months old. All of then have a clog in the hose or elsewhere in the dirt path. I clean the path and sell the vacs for a slightly discounted price. VERY rarely is it a motor problem.

I hope you find this comment helpful. Here they are in under 5 minutes. Thanks for using FixYa.com

When i start the vacum the brushes trun for about 3-5 seconds then stops. the vacum still runs, its just the brushes stop turning, what should i do?

If your machine has no power or interrupted power, please check the following:

- Make sure the power cord is plugged into a functioning outlet to check for power.
- The handle may not be installed properly, causing a loss in the power connection. Remove the handle completely. Slide the handle back into place on the lower section of handle and tighten the screw.
- With the machine turned off and unplugged, check the pre-motor filter and the Airetight™ HEPA filter for debris. Reduced air flow from dirty filters or clogs will put greater stress on the motor, increasing the possibility for overheating. The pre-motor filter is located underneath the canister of the vacuum in the pull out tray labeled "filter". This may be hand washed in cold water with mild detergent. Reinstall this filter when it is completely dry. The Airetight™ HEPA filter cartridge needs to be replaced and cannot be washed. This is located on the side of the machine inside the filter grill.

CLEARING CLOGS

NOTE: Ensure the machine is turned off and is unplugged before checking the following.

DIRT CUP AREA
- Empty the dirt cup. Remove the lower portion of the cup and clean the screen and check the center tubes for dirt accumulation.
- Check the dirt inlet. This is the opening located behind the canister and is only visible once the canister is taken off the machine.

UPPER HOSE
- Detach the hose from the machine by twisting the hose collar counterclockwise. Push a broomstick into the hose to push any obstruction to the end of the hose where it can be removed.
- Check the clear diverter area at the back of the machine. When the hose wand is removed from the base, the diverter should be in the up position. If a clog is visible near the diverter, remove the divertor cover by removing 7 screws and clear the obstruction.
NOTE: Be careful not to dislodge the gasket.

LOWER HOSE
- Recline the machine back and roll it over so the backside is facing up. Remove the bottom 4 screws from the diverter cover to loosen, and straighten the foot hose. Look through the hose for obstructions. Push a broomstick through the lower hose to unclog this. (Any obstruction should exit through the suction path at the brush roller).

NOTE: The Healthy Home Vacuum is equipped with a Thermal Protector feature to prevent the motor from overheating. If the motor becomes too warm, the thermal Protectors will activate and the machine will shut off automatically. If the Thermal Protectors activate, please do the following:

- Turn off and unplug the vacuum. Thermal Protectors will reset automatically in approximately 30 minutes.
- Clear any clogs.

Look for a missing belt that may have burned off or broken. Was there a burning smell at some point before the roller quit turning? If so, the belt must be replaced. I would also look at the ends of the roller to see if there is any string, hair, etc. that might be binding the roller that needs to be removed.

there is an overheat stat which cuts out motor if insufficient air flow. there must be a blockage you hav'nt found - probably in the air path from the brush roll to the fan
