You will need to manually configure the IP for your Local Network Connection: right click on the notification icon, go to Properties, double click Internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Or click properties, click Use the following IP address and input the correct data according with the settings in your network - change just the IP first.

Dell inspiron m5030 netgear router

Limited connectivity
If you get a 'Limited connectivity" on you wireless connection on your laptop, it means that the wireless card on your laptop probably did not get an IP address from the wireless router.
To fix this problem, right click on the wireless icon on the Task bar and then click Repair.
This will force the wireless router to issue a IP address to the wireless card on the laptop.

On of my inspiron mini's lost its net work connection and ip address, it wont connect to the internet

Open a command prompt:
Start>All Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt

Once in there, type this exactly without the quotes "ipconfig /release"

your ip address will come up 0.0.0.0

Now at the blinking cursor type in exactly without the quotes "ipconfig /renew"

Now you should have an IP of 192.168.xxx.xxx, or 10.10.xxx.xxx or even something different depending on your network.

If you come up with an address of 169.254.xxx.xxx, You' should restart the modem and the router. To do that first power off the router, then the modem. turn them back on in reverse order.

You should be able to connect after that.

Hope this helps

Cannot connect to open wireless network Invalid IP Address

Either the network requires you to manually configure your ip settings(unusual but not unheard of) or your wireless adapter is not set to get settings from DHCP. Check to verify that your wireless adapter is set for DHCP and if this is correct then you'll need to contact the administrator for the wireless AP and haver them check their settings.

Acquiring Network Address

reset the modem and the wireless router by powering them off for 30-60 seconds, then plug power back in. Wait a minute or so for the devices to reset then go to the PC and try to connect again

Good luck

I am trying to connect to the wireless in my new apartment. I have entered my network and password and that has worked fine. However, under Wireless Network Connection Status (i can get there by clicking...

On the Support tab - what does it say the "Address Type" ?
If its DHCP then check that on the TCP/IP properties;
If on "automatic IP address" then it wont take any entered IP address.

Do not put any IP address.

Check that "Obtain an IP address automatically" is checked and also "Obtain DNS server address automatically" is also checked. On wireless network tab check "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings".

On preferred network check that your wireless network is there, if not add it and move it up

Internet connection

Here's How:
  1. Click the Start menu button on the Windows taskbar.

  2. Click Run... on this menu.

  3. If the computer is holding a current IP address, type 'cmd' (without the quotes) in the text box that appears. A command prompt window appears on the screen.

  4. Type 'ipconfig' (without the quotes) to view the status of the computer's IP address(es).

  5. If the computer is holding a current IP address, type 'ipconfig /release' to let go of the address.

  6. Type 'ipconfig /renew' to obtain a new IP address (whether or not the computer is holding a current address).
Tips:
  1. If it is not necessary to view the current IP addresses on a computer, simply type 'ipconfig /release' or 'ipconfig /renew' (without the quotes) in the text box that appears in Step 3.

  2. To bring a computer back onto the network after moving it to a different location, or experiencing an unexpected outage, first release, then renew the IP address. Computers on DHCP networks often (but not always) re-establish network connectivity automatically.
