My Brother MFC 420CN is showing Machine Error 7E.
I replaced an ink cartridge the night prior and printed 1 page and made 1 copy, had no problems with that.....then when I got on the PC the next day....it showed Machine Error 7E. I have unplugged it let it sit a while and plugged back in, still same problem.
How do I fix this problem?
Can anyone PLEASE help??

Change the black one. It could be that the cart is mal manufactured (valve wont open). Use another one and see if there is bk again. When no success after the 2. cleaning cycle try this: http://www.fixya.com/support/t202678-printer_head_cleaning If there is more trouble post here.

brother won't print od do anything is one of the 4 inks are empty so first of all you have to replace whatever is empty, when you remove it it will ask you if you changed it and if it is a new one you will press 1 twice per cartridge, if you put compatible ink in you will clog the ink head up and then be stuffed

If this only happens when you are copying.
1. Your scanner glass is dirty. Open the lid, use windex to clean the
flatbed. Look on the left side. You should see a strip of glass, with
the scanner sitting under it. This strip is used when the document feed
is being used. Make sure it is clean. Most common problem is getting a
little whiteout or the sticky residue from scotch tape on this glass,
which causes lines down your copies.
Clean it with alcohol which will dissolve the sticky stuff and the whiteout.
If this does not solve the problem, the CCD scanner in your machine might be going bad.

I see it's been a while since you posted your question but in case anyone else is wondering about this, I'll answer. The information is not in the User's Guide booklet but in the Software User's Guide which should be available on your software disk, or you can view it here http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/Public/files/dlf/doc000240/BH3_UsaEngSoft_C.pdf
Basically, you go to the advanced tab under the printing preferences and select grayscale.
