Nearly all routers have a locking pin that you depress to lock the rotor then you should have a set of wrenches that came with the unit to loosen the mandrel and release the bit. Then just reverse the process to install the new bit.

How do you change the bit on a black and decker 5/8 router

in wood. The tool consists of a motor that drives a cutting bit; the bit spins quickly and cuts the wood. The router can be moved horizontally through the wood to form a desired shape, and the type of edge on the shape is determined by the design of the router bit. Different edge designs can be cut by changing bits. It is very easy to change the bit on a Black & Decker router.

Step 1 Turn the router off and ensure that it is disconnected from the power supply. Wait for the router bit to cool down if it was recently used.
Step 2 Detach the chip shield from the back of the face plate.
Step 3 Depress the spindle lock button on the side of the router and rotate the spindle until it locks.

Step 4 Turn the router upside down and place it on a flat surface.
Step 5 Keep the spindle lock button depressed and loosen the collet nut that holds the bit with the spanner wrench. The collet is the device on the router that holds the bit in place.
Step 6 Remove the bit and insert the shank of the new bit into the collet. The shank should protrude at least 1/8" from the collet.

Step 7 Keep the spindle lock button depressed and tighten the collet nut with the wrench.
Step 8 Release the spindle lock button. Reattach the chip shield.

Hello, my name is Lawrence K. I bought a Skil rail & stile router bit set.My question to anyone who may be familiar with this product is do you separate the rail & stile bit to do each...

If you are referring to the 91704 set, the bit remains together and you raise or lower it to make the various cuts.

not exactly the same, but this article I wrote for Woodworker's Journal in 2009 should help: http://www.woodworkersjournal.com/not-just-a-door-bit/

How to change a router bit

How and when:
With the power off & unplugged, loosen the collet and pull the bit out. if is is stuck, tap it gently with a piece of wood.
When installing the new bit, insert it fully into the collet and then withdraw it a couple mm. This will allow you to tap it loose later.

Leaving a bit in the router until next time is asking for a fused bit.

I changed from 64 bit to 128 bit back to 64 bit in 1 hr. It was an accident, and now my laptops will not recognize my router. My cable company has tried everything over the phone. We have changed the...

When you changed the WEP encryption from 64 bit to a stronger 128 bit encryption the encryption code gets changed and when you changes it back to 64 bit the new 64 bit encryption code will be different to the old 64 bit encryption code, that is why your laptops cannot connect to the router. The laptop wireless card needs to be configured with the new 64 bit encryption code before it can connect to the wireless router.
I suggest you configure the wireless router with WPA or WPA2 encryption, this is a much stronger encryption method than the old WEP encryption.

Changed internet companies now router won't work

I'm sorry but I find your post a bit confusing. Do either of the computers get on the internet?
Changing internet providers is something done INSIDE the router. The cables are irrelevant.
