First of all, I replaced the lamp about 4 months ago, so it is relatively new. The Problem: The TV almost never turns on after the first try. The sound always comes on, the red light stays solid, but then the green light blinks. The TV turns off, turns back on and continues to cycle like this, with sound, until the picture finally kicks in on one of the restarts. Is this possibly a bad lamp I got? As soon as this problem started occurring I also noticed the fans humming and getting louder. Thanks for any thoughts!

Some of these sets had a stupid feature. In the customer menu look for something called quick start.

The way you can tell if it is engaged is when you turn the set off the lamp dims but does not go out and the fans stay on all the time, clearly this feature was meant to speed up the turn on time but with it engaged when you turn the set off the lamp is still hot, if you turn it off and try to turn back on it will not function for fifteen or twenty minutes.

If you get the set to come on watch the lamp from the back and then turn the set off, does the lamp just dim down or go off? Lamp fan should run for a maximum of five minutes to cool lamp off, if it does not shut off and lamp only dims down look in the customer menu for quick start and deselect it, it is DEFAULT setting if set was unplugged.

These sets with this feature had problems where the lamp did not last two years.

Before you rate this solution let me know if you find what I described.

I have read another solution which may indicate the light engine has failed and will likely need replacing. The cost is quite expensive. $1500 range and apparently the part is no longer available from LG. Best you might do is get an estimate to repair just to be sure.

Hi,
It is time for new lamp in tv as existing has reached on end of its working life.
Replace lamp in tv to fix the problem, lamp replacement procedure is easy and would be written in user manual.
Please buy Sony original lamp for good picture in tv.

Power light flashed red 4 times then repeats no pic,new bulb/fan!

Check the fan that cools the bulb. It is directly behing the bulb. It should turn on when the power comes on. It apparently has a safety to protect your tv(and home). mine is in the process of going out. looking for online solutions as we speak.

TV won't stay on

Hello Fonzell!
Regarding the tv turning, my question is, do you hear a clicking sound? if so, it's most probable tio be your ballast, that might not have enough voltage to keep on with your lamp, and that's why it shuts off.
You could try replacing it and seeing if it resolves your issue, I believe they're running around 70 dlls..
have a great one ! :)

I believe I may have solved this problem by putting a small fan blowing on the intake of the Lamp fan. I put the fan in place and the TV has not turned off randomly since. That was only a day ago so I'll see if it is a permanent fix. If so I will probably try to mount the fan on the back of the TV out of sight.

Lamp Light Red - No Screen Image

It could be the a problem with the lamp ballist circuit, or just a bad lamp socket, or simply a bad lamp. The only way to tell is to call out a servicer as that would be alot less expensive then to get a new lamp and then that not be the problem. These problems can be a little hair pulling at times, thats why i have no hair left!! LOL Good Luck
