Dehumidifier runs but does not remove moisture. Why?

probably the ac section to cool the humidifier is not working
for a de-humidifer to work there has to be a cold surface to condense the water vapour in the air
if there is no ac unit ,it will still need that temperature difference to work or a sufficient humidity in the air to work

Returned the first one to Home Depot, the second dehumidifier runs but does not extract any water as well, stays at 80%.

dehumidifiers need humidity to work so check that the a humidity of the room area has a readable humidity level for it to work
if the humidity is over 50% and it is not working then maybe the ac part is not working properly

Hi- I have a Kenmore dehumdifier that has stopped filling up with water. It sounds like it is working but no water is in the tank. Any ideas?

A dehumidifier works with heat, so you should see if it is getting warm or not. Although the fan is working (sound you hear) it might not be working other than the fan. If you have a clamp on amp meter you could see how many amps it is drawing which is usually quite high.

I just replaced the thermal fuse as described by several of your people for a fan motor on a Kenmore dihumidifier 580.54701400. The unit ran fine for about an hour and then stopped with a burning smell...

Your call on the $39 replacement replacing the whole thing.
did the TCO you put int have the same specs (temperature) as the one you replaced? I've replaced a lot of these and they'll keep running.
The burning smell points to a failing coil which creates the heat which opens the TCO. you already know how to get the motor coil out so I think the $39 options is better.

My Comfort-Aire BHD-501-B is running. However, none of the control panel buttons work. I cannot turn it off with the on/off button. I cannot change the humidity set point using the up or down arrows. I...

I don't think it's a thermistor problem, as previous respondents have suggested. I have one of these units. The control panel has been nothing but trouble. The Power button works, but the Fan Speed button is stuck on High. The Humidity Up/Down buttons only work sporadically. Sometimes they work if I keep punching them. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to when they work and when they don't. I think they're just cheap parts that have failed prematurely.

Dehumidifier headaches!

There are three things that must be working to extract water. The 'coil' (a finned metal part that allows air passage) if it's filled with dust and obstructions, no air can move...no water. There is a blower motor that mus move the air. If it is seized up an not blowing air...very little or no water. The compressor uses condensation from the air moving across its coils (like the moisture than forms on a cold glass on a humid day) to extract the water from the air. If it's not working then no water.
So, if there is air blowing out of the dehumidifier the blower is working. If the air is room temp the compressor is not working. If it's real hot air, and the humidifier keeps cycling on and off quickly, the coil is dirty. Those are the 3 things that need to be working.
