I replaced the STK chips and 3 fuses per the research I did on the convergence and blinking red light problem. Plugged all back in and had convergence issues and hor - vert was off so I tried to adjust convergence with remote but was unsuccessful. Went to download the service manaul, came back to the TV and the screen is black, no audio, nothing, but power will come on. Any thoughts?

Make sure you didn't bridge anything, knock anything off the deflection board you shouldn't have. All the resistor values on both sides of the STK match up, and most importantly Labeled all your plugs properly and placed them in the right spot, because if they are switched, you'll get a convergence issue. Make sure the fuses are still good too and that all the terminals that all the plugs go into have good solder joints.
Also, there is a voltage divider.
Make sure that none of the wires got loosened when you pulled this plug. (Particularly the ground wire) Let me know!

Red light keeps flashing on toshiba theatre. How can I fix it?

on the older sets it is a short and usually in the convergence circuit, the way to know is located the convergence chips and unsolder both from the board (18 pins each) and if set then comes on (WILL LOOK BAD) one of the two chips is bad and both need to be replaced----should be stk-392=110 chips.

Toshiba tp50g90 projection tv, red flashing light won't turn on

FYI: WHOEVER told you 110 chips can be replaced with 120 chips is wrong.

Easy way at this point to way at this point to see if chips are the problem is to UNSOLDER AND REMOVE BOTH CHIPS. Make sure not shorted connections and power set up---set will function without the chips but look terrible.

Try Suburban Electronics for the correct chips----only safe replacement for them is the 150 chip----stk-392-110 and stk-392-120 are not interchangeable.

The blinking light indicates a short.

LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS AS I HAVE FIXED hundreds OF THESE SETS.

Sony model #kp51ws500. Common problems for screen appearing warped

Need more details about how the screen is appearing warped.

if you have color separation and distorted image (warped, bowed, etc), then your Convergence ICs have failed. It is very common on rear projections. The solution is to replace the STK chips, check fuses and the resistors next to the STK chips. Replace as necessary and re-align via the service menu. It is about a $300 repair at a tv service center. You will need the service manual if you decide to do this yourself.

Try This:
When you notice the symptons Use this simple test to verify.
Go to the users menu on the tv.
Look for the converge option probably under setup or video setting. Converge is short for convergence to align the red and blue colors to the green color.

If you cannot move the red either horizontal or vertical, then the STK chip has failed for red section.
If you cannot move the blue either horizontal or vertical, then the STK chip has failed for the blue section.

If you can move both in each direction then the problem is something else.

Note if one STK chip fails, you replace both regardless.

Note: The STK chips are black about 3 inches long and will be mounted against a large aluminum heat sink (metal fins). They have about 20 pins on them. I believe they are STK392-560s in that set.

On my HD1080 Mitsubishi projection flat screen 55809 the picture is bowed on top and bottem and it look as if the projectors themselves are offset, but the picture is clearer as you come toward the center....

It could be one of two things: Either a bad solder joint or convergence IC failure.

Text/images overlap each other in 3 colors, 3D distorted picture

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick email and they will put one together for you. Their kits includes photo instruction guides, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.
