Auto Duplex Unit Not Working Model: HP LaserJet 2420dn I am using Windows XP and installed "HP LaserJet 2420 PCL 5e" driver. It is connected via internet and when I try to print double side, it only allows me to manually print on both sides even though my printer has an automatic duplex unit. The duplex unit works fine with my linux machine but Windows do not allow me to print both sides. Any suggestions? Thank you!

You need to go into the print driver on your Windows machine and go to the Device settings tab. One of the settings is to set whether the unit has a duplexer or not. It does not always set automatically.

Duplex printing in HP 2420dn on Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4

According to the specs, this printer does not have a duplex unit and therefore cannot print double sided prints.
DOUBLE SIDED PRINTING USING A SINGLE SIDED PRINTER
If your printer does not have a duplex unit then the printercannot print double sided pages automatically.
You can print double sided pages but you have to do it one page at a time.
First print Page 1 then place the page back into the paper tray, but turn thepage upside down and the print Page 2.
Then print page 3 on one side then page 4 on the other side and repeat for therest of the document.
I suggest you try a test page first, to get the printing the right way up onboth sides of the page so it reads correctly.

I have a printer HP Laserjet 2420dn pcl 6 on network which prints empty page on every second page can you give me solution to this problem

Why don't you delete the printer and go out to www.hp.com/#support and download the latest drivers.
Try the PCL5, less problems. and reinstall the printer.

I want duplex printing for hp 2420

The only way to duplex print on a standard 2420 is to print the first page, then take that page and re-insert it into the paper tray face up. Then print page 2 onto the back of page 1. If you want to automatically duplex print then you need a 2420DN printer which has the duplexing paper path as well as the formatter board with the duplex firmware.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Duplex printing in HP 2420dn

Hi,

I had the same problem. It was due to incorrect properties in the printer settings.

  1. Go to Start >> Printers and Faxes
  2. Right-click on the HP 2420 printer and select Properties.
  3. Go to the Device Settings tab.
  4. Under Installable Options, set Duplex Unit to Installed.
Also, make sure that the Printing Preferences are set to Two Sided Printing:
  1. Go to Start >> Printers and Faxes
  2. Right-click on the HP 2420 printer and select Printing Preferences.
  3. Go to the Printing Shortcuts tab.
  4. Select the Two Sided (Duplex) Printing option.
That should do the trick.

HP - please change your setup so that this is set by default!!
