Dont know how to turn on bluetooth on my acer 5742 laptop. plz help.

You can try Fn+F3 to bring up the launch manager, by which you can turn on your wireless.

Probably your laptop dosen't have bluetooth hardware in it.

Follow these steps:

1. Right click on My computer and click Manage
2. Then click on device manager on left panel

A list will appear which shows the hardware content of your laptop. If the list dosen't contain bluetooth device then it is confirmed that your laptop dosent have bluetooth hardware.

Try using external USB bluetooth device for your laptop.

Have u created a recovery disc when u set up the computer for the first time. If yes, u can try that. Or else u can get a copy of that disc by calling the Acer Tech Support. Also you can try installing any other OS of your choice if your hardware is compatible.

Maybe the drivers are not installed. On the other hand, there's a possibility that it doesn't have any bluetooth function, check the box for the specs and features usually bluetooth is optional.

My daughter has a similar model in this series, and hers does not have Bluetooth capability. What is very misleading (and, in my opinion, bordering on false advertising) is that there is a Bluetooth switch on the unit that doesn't actually do anything since the card is not installed. Bluetooth is listed as one of those "varies by model" features, so yours may not have it either. (I only found that out when I opened her laptop to see why the Bluetooth wasn't turning on.)

Most likely, the only way you'll get Bluetooth working on your model is to buy a USB Bluetooth adapter (a "dongle") and plug it in. Unless yours does in fact have Bluetooth installed and it the card doesn't work, in which case you'll need to have the computer serviced.

Try Fn + F3. That should 'activate' the bluetooth switch. Also, download the Bluetooth Drivers from Acer website. Atheros worked for me.
