Binoculars make a GREAT first "Telescope"!

For beginners in the Astronomy hobby we usually recommend that they buy a nice pair of either 7x50mm binoculars, or 10x50mm binoculars as their first 'telescope".

Additionally they should buy one or two Astronomy books, one of which should be a star chart. You will use the star chart and the binoculars to learn a little bit about the night sky BEFORE you buy your first telescope.

Good books:

Objects in the Heavens by Peter Birren- http://www.amazon.com/Objects-Heavens-Peter-Birren/dp/155369662X/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1264187389&sr=8-1-fkmr0

Sky & Telescope Star Atlas- http://www.amazon.com/Sky-Telescopes-Pocket-Atlas/dp/1931559317/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1264187432&sr=8-1

Turn Left at Orion- http://www.amazon.com/Turn-Left-Orion-Hundred-Telescope/dp/0521781906/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1264187469&sr=8-1-spell

Nightwatch- http://www.amazon.com/NightWatch-Practical-Guide-Viewing-Universe/dp/155407147X/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1264187498&sr=8-5

Spend a few months learning the sky with the binoculars and JOIN a local Astronomy club. The members will help you learn the sky and you will get to look through their telescopes and decide on which one you should purchase. Did you know that the Astronomical League gives awards for completing several different observations using binoculars! Join your local AL Astronomy club to learn about observing awards using only binoculars!

Where can I buy replacement lens caps for my Nikon Monarch ATB 8 x 40 binoculars?

Nikons Service center can order the parts for you. If they are not in stock takes about 6 to 8 weeks. I rang them and got the part number. They sent me an order form by email I filled it in, scanned it and I got my parts sent to me.
Nikon have service centers in many countries. Check their website. Failing that try binoculars.com or adorama camera in the US. They are good to deal with and ship internationally as well.

Who manufactures Rokinon binoculars?

They are Chinese made as are most of the binoculars on the market today. This includes companies such as Nikon, Bushnell, Tasco Swift etc. Some have Japanese made binoculars but they are the high end of the product line.Only Zeiss, Leica, Swarovski and Steiner of the larger makkers are European made.
Chinese binoculars are made to a price. The party requesting them gets what they pay for. Those with exceptional quality control are very good instruments. The only way to really tell is to look through a pair. If you like them buy them. The price they sell for don't expect brilliant performance. Nikon and Leupold have some inexpensive Chinese made units that are backed by good warranty

Poor quality

My response to these always makes me sad. There is no way of getting good picture. These camera binoculars are neither good cameras or binoculars. They do neither well. The camera is just attached to the binoculars. What you see through the binoculars is not what the camera sees. The binoculars magnification is not the same as the lens in the camera. It is like holding a camera on top of a pair of binoculars. The camera will take a picture in the area approximate to where you are looking. Digital cameras have a sensor. The more megapixels the larger the sensor should be. Camera makers are now making compact cameras with huge megapixel capacity without increasing the sensor size. The result is worse looking pictures. Not much is different with the cameras attached to binoculars only the sensors are much worse quality than those on a stand alone digital camera.
Maybe not the solution you wanted buts its the truth. If you do want to take bird photos your best bet is a pair of binoculars on a tripod with a digital camera adaptor and camera attached. The camera adaptors that are made in China are not expensive and are copies of some of the high priced units out there. all the adaptor is is a bracket which attaches to a tripod which holds the camera to one of the binocular lenses. That way you see what the camera sees through the binoculars.
