Good day. If you look at the head where the line goes, you wil notice on either side of the reel, two rectangular push buttons. Press them inwards and pull out the head casing. On the reel, it should show the direction that the new line must be rewound. Hope this helps

NB: Some of the units are a bit difficult to remove and may require a large flat tip screwdriver to push the buttons in.

I see that you want to remove the whole unit to mount a weed wacker. Normally there will be a large nut around the shaft, or on other models, two to four screws holding it to the arm of the machine. Hope this helps

NB: Most of the time a weed thrasher has the same clips as the reel casing, and should clip right in without removing the reel assembly

Hi crystaldawso,

Here's how you will remove the spool of your Weed Eater:

  • Turn off the trimmer and lay it down so that the head is facing up.
  • Press the two tabs on the side of the bump head then pull off the bump head.
  • Pull the spool and string straight off of the head.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

How do you remove the spool on an echo srm-2100 trimmer

Most units like yours has a tap head feed spool. To get to the line spool, you need to push the spool inward and rotate it to release it. The line spool is spring loaded, hence the need to push it in and rotate it to get it to release. You return the spool to the trimmer head housing after loading new line on it the same way, in reverse. Hope this info helps.

How to replace the spool head

Once you remove the spool cap and the spool, you cannot remove the head from the motor. It is not a replacement part.

Toro tb65ss upper string head removal

  1. Pull the spark plug wire from the top of the spark plug. Bend the wire to the side to prevent accidental starting.
  2. Place trimmer on its side with the trimmer spool head facing you. Press the two tabs on the side of the spool head with your fingers.
  1. Hold side of the head and slowly allow the head cover to push away from the inside of the spool head. There is a spring between the spool head housing and the spool that pushes out when releasing the cover.
  1. Pll the knob and spool out of the spool head. The spring should come out on the back of the spool.
    Electric Trimmer
  1. 1 --> Unplug the Toro trimmer power cord from the electrical outlet.
  2. 2 --> Lay the trimmer on its side. Hold the spool housing tight in one hand and twist the cap counterclockwise with your fingers. If necessary, use a pair of large slip joint pliers to start turning the cap. The cap is the center piece of the spool.
  3. 3 --> Pull the cap off the spool and remove the spool from the housing.

I have a Echo Gas trimmer SRM-210 Rapid feeder dual line. I need to know how to remove the entire drum for the string spool? NOT how to re-string but how to replace entire head/spool, as if I was going to...

In your manual under section 12: Line Head Installation. You will do the opposite of what it says here. The key is to LOCK the gear drive so the flex-drive shaft won't turn WHEN you are removing the trimmer head. They use a special tool (maybe you have it). But a small-shafted Phillips screwdriver or the like can be put in the drive hole to lock the gearing up as well. Look for the hole in the upper plate and align with the notch in the drive housing and grasping the entire string head unit, remove it. Here is your manual, see Section 12

Mcculloch trimmac 250sl the spool at the end of the grass trimmer does not spin although everything else works fine. I think it's the angle gear that's broken but I don't know how to get to it....

on top of the head there is a star shaped bolt(middle of the head), remove bolt and rotate the spool you should see the gear turn, to remove the head from the shaft remove bolt/screw on the side of the shaft towards the top of the head, remove head and inspect the shaft, this should rotate when you pull to start the weed eater, if it does not then you will need to remove the top portion of the weed eater and inspect to see if the shaft is broken or not seeded inside the motor. Hope this helped Tim

I need to put in new string -- don't know how to install. I need to know what to remove -- do I unscrew something, or do I just stick the string inside the casing?

This trimmer is an "AFS" (Automatic Feed System) trimmer meaning the trimmer uses centrifugal force and a lever that play out trimmer line without you ahving to bump it on the ground. Your trimmer uses .080" diamter line. You can get a replacement spool and lever at Lowe's fairly cheap. I would say get the spool that is already wound rather than trying to buy just the line and re-spooling...that will make this a LOT easier!

What you do to replace the line is place the trimmer on a stable flat surface (like a workbench), raise up the head of the trimmer and follow the steps below:

1. Remove the spool cover (this is the orange cap on the head)

2. Remove the spool, (observe and note the orientation of the spool!)

3. Using a pair of pliers, pull the orange feed lever straight out (observe and note the orientation of the lever!)...do not try to pry it off, you will damage the head!

4. Insert the new lever in the same orientation you noted when you removed the old one.

5. Insert the new spool and line in the same orientation as the old spool.

6. Replace the cap.

Black and Decker has an 800 number you can call if you get stuck, the number is 1-800-544-6986. Good Luck!

Do not know how to correctly string so string will come out as it is supposed to on my poulan pro weedeater, do not have directions

There are five ways to change trimmer line depending upon the style of trimmer head on your unit.

The first style has a locking tab on the side of the trimmer head that must be depressed while the lock ring is turned counter-clockwise. This will remove the cover and give access to the spool which can then be pulled out, rewound with the line (winding in the direction of the arrows on the spool), and re-installed.

The second style requires lining up the marks on the bottom of the spool tap/button assembly and firmly pulling straight out on the tap button. This pulls the spool assembly out so it can be re-wound and inserted back into the hub assembly.

The third style requires pushing in and down on the two locking tabs on the side of the trimmer head. This will remove the cover and give you access to the spool.

The fourth style of trimmer head is the Centrex. Remove the cap on the bottom of the head by unscrewing it. Remove the guide ring and remove the spool from the unit. Cut a 25ft length of line and insert one end into the center cavity of the empty spool. Feed the line into the spool, leaving 4-6 inches unwound from the center of the spool. Reinstall the spool, guide and cap, making sure the notch in the guide is facing away from the spool and the line is in the notch.

The fifth style is the fixed line cutting head. This style cutting head uses a pre-cut piece of cutting line. After removing the worn line from the cutting head, insert the precut piece into the positioning tunnel leaving an equal amount out each side of the tunnel. The ends of the line can then be inserted through the exit tunnels.

I need directions to replace string on black and decker cordless 18v grasshog

Go to home depot. look at the floor model and the replacement spools they sell there. Reverse engineer the stringing process or but a pre-loaded spool.
Otherwise,
1. Squeeze the tabs on the side of the head of the unit to remove the spool cover.
2. remove spool.
3. place end of string in small hole in center ring of spool.
4. wide spool with string in the direction of the arrows printed on the spool. DO NOT OVERLOAD!.
5. snap string into notch on spool and cut string leaving 6" exposed.
6. thread 6" of string through hole in side of unit head, replace spool, and replace cover.
7. go cut grass.
