I have a Frigidaire Electric smooth top range and oven. when I set turn on the burners they do not light up or get hot. When I try to bake I press the Bake button and set the temperture but the oven never gets hot. the controls click like they are trying to respond but nothing is happening. What could the problem be?

I'm sorry to point this out and if you need to ask that much, you should call a qualified service agent instead.

Please remember that an electric range is almost certainly the highest-powered device in your house - ie, the one that could most easily kill you dead.

All half-way qualified service agents should know how to fix the problem you describe - and to talk you through what they'll do in a way which suits you.

Again sorry, and I seriously suggest you consider which is more important: your life or limb, or the cost of an expert call-out?

There's an error code on the digital display

The problem is likely one of two things: Either the lower burner is shot and should be replaced, or there is a defect in the switch. The burner is the more likely problem if the upper burner is still working. If the lower burner works on any of the other settings it could be the switch, which would need to be replaced.

If your oven's bake or the broiler heating elements won't heat but the range burners still work;the clock may be set for a timed or self-cleaning cycle. So,make sure to check the clock buttons and the knobs are set properly.
*If your clock has a knob that says "push for manual" then push the knob in after that, try the baking and broiling elements again.

*If it still does not work properly, you may have a defect in the thermostat/selector switch/common wiring.

*If the oven does not have a separate bake or broil selector switch; then the thermostat is probably the problem. It is not easy to check the selector switch or thermostat for proper operation. If you suspect a problem in this area, call a qualified appliance repair technician.

It sounds like you are missing part of your input voltage.

I would take a voltage reading at the receptacle and confirm you are reading 220-240VAC. Some homes have the 220 service receptacles wired up with two 120 volt breakers to make up your 220 service. If your home is configured this way, you may have one of the breakers tripped. Or, the receptacle itself may be bad. If you confirm you have the correct voltage at the receptacle, your power cord may be bad.

The reason the clock and display will still appear to work is because the clock only uses 110-120VAC and is tapped off the source voltage. The surface burners and the oven heating elements, however, require the full 220 service.

If you are confused by this explanation, please post back and let me know. Hopefully, this is a problem that will not require any parts or a service call. If the power cord is bad, you can purchase a replacement at any hardware store. I hope this information is helpful.
