I'm assuming Onyko.

Get the manual out and assemble the necessary source(s) and speakers. They'll come with manuals, too.

0-83 error on onkyo tx nr 555

The 0-83 error indicates a problem with the firmware update.

Try resetting the receiver's BIOS by following these steps2:
Unplug all cables
Un-Power the receiver
Power the receiver
Before the receiver gets into the "Enter for updating" message, press Tone + CBL/SAT + ON/STANDBY. This will show you either the volume numbers or get you into settings of the receiver's speaker configuration.

Press CBL/SAT + ON/STANDBY. This will clear the BIOS and show a "Clear" message on the display. Wait until you hear a couple of clicking sounds for the receiver to turn on and off the power.

Need assistance to get the audio volume

Make sure Speakers A + B buttons are both pressed in.

Run the test tones. If you can hear Test Tones then it's just a configuration issue.

7.1 would have Surround Back L and R.

6.1 would have just one back there (SB). It defaults to the Left output on the Pre-Outs if you ever go that route.

This being a 6.1 receiver it does not support two SB channels BUT you can configure those amp channels for a separate Zone supporting 2 speakers. Confused?

The manual shows a single SB speaker connected to the left side on Page 27. THAT would be consistent with a 6.1 configuration.

I am trying to connect my iPhone to my Onkyosr507. i connected it to the portable input in the front of the receiver but couldnt hear anything. what should i do? any configuration needed?

No configuration needed, it should play normally. Alternative you can use a jack to 2 RCA cable like this

and connect your iPhone at the audio L - R inputs as seen on this picture
