Hi,

Improve the Fixya.com experience for everyone by voting!

The solution I'm suggesting works in my business (LAN installations) about 95% of the time. I trust that it will work for you.

Let's see if I can help you.

Begin by turning on your computers and your router

? Make sure that you are using the latest drivers. You can download the latest driver/firmware from Driver Downloads Database.[email protected].
? Open Internet Explorer on the computer that you cannot see;
? Click on 'Tools';
? Click on 'Internet Options';
? Click on 'Connections';
? Click on 'Setup'
? Click on 'I want to set up my Internet connections manually . . .';
? Click on 'Next';
? Click on 'I connect through a local area network (LAN);
? Clock on 'Next'
? Click on 'Next' [This is not an error];
? Click on 'No';
? Click on 'Next';
? Click on 'To connect to the Internet immediately . . .; and,
? Click on 'Finish'.

That should have you online. However, if it doesn't get you on line, do the following: Click on tools again. Click on 'Diagnose Connection Problems' and follow the instructions.

The last choice is to use the Setup Wizard. It seldom works for me but you might more luck than poor me. Here are the instructions:

The Connect to the Internet wizard will guide you through the steps of setting up an Internet connection.

Open the Connect to the Internet wizard by:

• Clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button
• Click on Control Panel.
• In the search box, type network,
• Click "Network and Sharing Center"
• Click Set up a new connection or network
• Then double-click "Connect to the Internet".

All the best

Ben

Rj 45 wall connection in my room for internet. i want to go wireless mac,ipad xbox etc .can i use belkin n150

You can assuming all your devices support wireless. (Black XBox does). You may only get B or G wireless unless your devices support the N mode wireless. I will warn you that wireless on XBox can cause issues of lag while playing heavy network usage games on Xbox Live such as FPS's like Call of Duty. With the N150 you should also have wired ports in the back which would still let you connect wired devices.

What is providing internet to the RJ-45 Jack in your wall. If it is a college they may have port security turned on in their network which will not allow other Hubs/Routers to be plugged into the network.

Need help connecting to the internet. don't know where to start.

Please follow these steps:
  1. From your cable or ADSL modem connect its network port ( An RJ-45 connector that's similar to a phone line connector just it's wider and have 8 pins ) to the WAN port of your wireless router, commonly this cable (Ethernet type) is included with it.
  2. With a wired connection from PC to router (Ethernet), look for the wizard setup disk and launch it, this will guide you step by step to set up you wireless router.

I want to connect a CAT5e Ethernet cable (with or without a RJ45 connector) from a DSL router to an older computer that only has a RJ11 input. This will be used for DSL internet service only -- no...

The only "outputs" from a DSL-router are:
* RJ-11 telephone-jack, only if the router also supports voice-over-IP,
* RJ-45 Ethernet port (always present)

You need to purchase an internal network-card, to create an RJ-45 port on the computer, and then use the CAT-5e cable to make the connection.

How do you connect the router to the cable modem box?

Hi Shomer.

Power-off both the Modem and the Router. Connect one end of the RJ-45 (Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port on the Modem, then connect the other end of the cable to the WAN port of the Router. Power-on Router first, allow it to boot up, (usually around 30 seconds), power on modem and allow that to boot up. Your problem should now be resolved.

Please post back with your results and good luck.

Would like to be to able connect second laptop to

If you are looking for a wired connection, all you need is a Ethernet cable to be plugged in to the LAN part of the router. If you want it wirelessly connected, run the wireless software in your laptop. In the available wireless networks, choose your network and type in the passphrase ( if you have wireless security enabled ) . This should help you connected .
Hope this helps

Need help with best connection type for college student in dorm

The enhaced version just give more range of signal over the normal dynex, regarding the internet provider it depends because sometimes you'll need a password and user to connect to the wireless signal. The dynex is used to connect from a cable signal (RJ-45)internet and then it will transfer the connection to wireless so it can be use from any laptop with wireless connection. So for example you DSL internet connection is a cable (RJ-45) then you connect that cable to the dynex router, then the router will automatically transmit the signal to wireless so any nearby pc can connect to it. If the laptop doesn't have wireless, then you'll have to buy a card to be able to connect to wireless signal or you could by also a (RJ-45 straight-through cable Cat 5e) to connect from one of the ports from the DYNEX to the laptop. Hope it helps.

Do you have a wireless security protocol enabled, and if so, what? Install a wired connection to the router (use an ehternet cable to connect your laptop's RJ-45--looks like a wide phone plug--into one of the Belkin router's network jacks). Go to the router's management page using your web browser (probably http://192.168.2.1). If you have not previously set the password in your router, simply leave the password field blank and CLICK "Submit". If you have previously password protected your Belkin router, use the known password. If you have forgotten your password... you'll need to reset your router.

Reest Router: there is usually a small hole into whiuch a pin or paper clip can be inserted for this purpose or a small button to press. Most Belkins--IIRC--have the button.

Once you are on the Belkin router's management page, look for the wireless link and set your security protocol to match what your wireless card is capable of, set the password, save and exit. Use the sasme password in configuring wireless networking in Windows.
