Removed black ink cartridge from carrier, tried to print with color ink cartridge in carrier and now the carrier is jammed and will not move back to left or middle so that black ink cartridge can be added. We have tried maintenance, align cartridge, and it says printer is busy and cannot align cartridges while busy...but it isn't busy. help
If possible, shut off the printer completely and manually move the ink carriage to where the cartridges can be swapped out. turn it back on and try again. try to see if some mechanism that holds the missing cartridge in place has swung down and is bumping into something, preventing the carriage from moving past a certain point.

Paper jam means just that. Look for paper or a piece of paper jammed into a gear or stuck between a roller or even in your ink cartridge . When you put in your new ink did you take off the protective seal and run the HP software to check if it is reading the Cartridge ,You might want to read the instruction on how to install an ink cartridge. It might also help you ?
You can diagnose most problems by checking the control panel LED's for ink out, paper-out or copier problem. If a problem occurs while you're printing, you'll see an error message in the progress window on your computer. It may also be helpful to try running a printer nozzle check.

# Hold the cartridge upside down, with the
bar-code label facing you and take a damp paper towel. # Use the towel to wipe the printhead of the
cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead
horizontally in one direction only (left to right). # Continue doing this until it looks clean. # Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure
the ink is flowing. # Next, look inside the printer and locate the
carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not
installed at this point.
1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the
contacts at the back of the carrier. 2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and
wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than
one swab.
# Reinstall the cartridges, making sure you snap
them correctly into the printer.

Lights Flashing on the Lexmark Z815/ Z816 Color Jetprinter
ID: ENUS17112
This document does not apply directly to your Lexmark Z615
First count the number of times the light on the front of your printer flashes.
Then refer to the table below for information about the error condition and recommended recovery procedures.
Number of FlashesError ConditionError Recovery
2
Carrier Stall: The movement of the print cartridge carrier has been obstructed.
Remove any objects blocking the carrier path.
4
Print Incomplete: The print cartridge carrier stopped in the middle of a print job due to obstruction.
Remove any objects blocking the carrier path.
12
Cartridge Short: The printer has detected a short circuit in a cartridge.
Turn the printer off.
Open the front cover.
Turn the printer back on.
Remove the color cartridge.
Close the cover. If there are no flashing lights, the color cartridge is short-circuited.
Remove the black cartridge and then reinsert the color cartridge.
If there is no error indicated by flashing lights, the black cartridge is short-circuited.
If you continue to receive an error indicated by flashing lights, both cartridges are short-circuited.
Please remove the cartridges from the printer. Take a dry lint free paper towel and gently wipe the contacts on the back of the cartridge (not the bottom from where ink is present). Wipe the contacts inside the printer (on cartridge carrier). Please snap the cartridges back into the cartridge carrier.
Next, try this printer self-test by following the steps given below:
1. Turn off the printer. 2. Press and hold the power button for at least 5 seconds, then release the power button. 3. The Self-Test will print. The test is not continuous.
The self-test should at least print out a set of either a solid black or solid color bars, if not both (if you have a printer with both color and black installed simultaneously). Should this test fail, please try it again without cartridge installed. If the self-test still fails to take paper in and make sounds like the carrier is moving across the paper, this is a hardware issue, and the printer will require service. If the self-test completes without the cartridge installed, run the self-test again with only a color cartridge installed. If you find that either cartridge causes the self-test to fail, please let us know.
If the self-test prints, but has lines or smudges or other print quality issues, please let us know. This includes any print quality issues - we need to know if the problems you have with your black or color are based in the printer, or communications with your computer, or the computer's software.
If the self-test prints your test bar(s) clearly, the printer hardware is not at fault.
We have several of these in our company and the most common "Carriage Jam" cause is a glob of black ink in the bay on the right side. Once glob is removed, and "Carriage Jam" message appears again, press OK, and it prints fine from then on. Today the black ink glob was flat on top. Watch out for leaky cartridges, as the design of the particular HP device provides a nice catch pan for the tri-color ink cartridge, but not for the black one, so a leaky cartridge, besides being expensive and wasteful, can goop up the bay causing the carriage jam error message to try to get you to take a closer look.
So here it goes: Open the cover as if you would change the cartridge.
Then press the little black button I highlighted in the picture. Keep
it pressed, push “copy” on the left and then the (print) black button
on the right of the lcd. The printer will somehow work and work. Wait
until it rests again. Then close the cover and press the black button
again. Now it should copy… and print, and so on.
i had the same problem and i'm almost positive it's because i do not have a color ink cartridge in my printer. i called the technical support and they said that both ink cartridges have to be in the carrier for the printer to work. even if one of them does not have ink in it. hope this helps. (for me too)
i tried taking it out but its still stuck i also did all the steps to fix it even bought a new color
