Try listening for a clicking around the shifter area. You should hear it when you hit the brake pedal. If not you need to check for a signal coming from the brake pedal switch.
It possibly is the brake light switch, this is mounted on the top of the brake pedal, check the brake lights are working? The switch is not normally loud enough to hear? Check the area around the brake pedal, make sure things like heater air pipes are secure and away from the pedal. If the brakes are ok and the brake lights are working, it has to be something fouling the pedal.
Sounds like a major vacuum leak..Can you hear air noise around the pedal area..You could have the vacuum assist booster internally leaking..Also look around the intake area and look for broken or missing vacuum lines..I know its stored a code if its running that bad..You might take it to autozone or advance and have it scanned..It might give a direction to look towards..But dont let them talk you into replacing everything the codes reads..Sometimes you can have several codes,,but only one problem
this is a safety feature that maybe going bad. you should NOT be able to put the car in gear without the brake on. this is controlled by a solenoid in the shift lever. the sound you here is it disengaging so that you can move the lever. it may be loose or worn so it is "clicking" when it actuates. If it is still working correctly just keep an eye on it a plan for a replacement when it gets worse.
do you hear a clickung sound everytime you step on the brake pedal?? get into the truck and be very quiet. turn on the key so the dash lights up and turn off all accessories such as radio and heat so its totally quiet in the truck hit the brake pedal and listen for clicking sound coming from shifter area. if no sound is heard at all than your solenoid to release the shifter from park is not working. start with doing the test and post results.
The stick is on the driver side towards the back of the firewall..Sometimes it painted black ,,so you will have to look closely..Shouldnt have anything to do with coming out of park though...Sounds like a linkage problem..You have a solenoid that releases the lock when you put on the brake pedal..Then you can take it out of park..Listen closely and see if you hear the click when you depress the brake pedal.Sometimes depressing the brake pedal several times will release it
Check for a possible leaking vacuum system, maybe the vacuum booster is leaking, that would explain the idle being affected by stepping on the brake pedal.
Hello, this sounds like a brake lamp switch it is located around the brake pedal area, renew this and your problem should go.
Hope this has helped you out.
George.
hi do you hear a click sound from the gear lever area when you press the brake pedal if not first of all check under the dashboard around the brake pedal se if the brake switch has fallen out if all looks ok then if you look at the top of your gear selecter you should see a small plastic screw remove it with a flat screw driver put you car key in the hole and push down on the key you should be able to then remove your gear selecta from the park position hope this helps
