If your using RCA cables (thats the red, white & yellow leads) you need run yellow RCA from the 'VIDEO (or) TV OUTPUT' at the back of your tv, to the 'VIDEO (or) TV INPUT' in the back of your DVD/VCR combo unit, & do the same with the red & white 'AUDIO' leads only run them from AUDIO OUTPUT(tv) to AUDIO INPUT(dvdrecorder). Now set the mode of the dvd recorder to TV IN or AUX IN. Now it should record whatever you see on the tv screen. But if your tv has an S VIDEO OUTPUT option, using an S VIDEO cable would be much easier & produces a better copy! Hope this helps!
I have the same Symphonc DVD- VCR Combo wfr205. I can't get it to work either. I called Syphonic support 2 years ago about it, they told me to clean it. I did. It will recognize DVD's sparodicly, but will not finalize them so that I can play them on anything else. I tried 3 different brands of DVD-R all with the same results. I called Symphonic a 2nd time. They do not offer replacement and have never acknowledged the recoder has a problem. I finally bought a Sony DVD recorder. I can use it along with the VCR portion of the Symphonic. The Symphonic was a waste of cash.
