I have multiple issues with my Classic Controller. Maybe its because I dropped it a lot or I played some really intense games on it, or I spilled some water on it... but whatever the reason, the left analog stick seems to fail on me for many reasons.
Reason 1: When I play Monster Hunter Tri, when I move right, and when I let go of the analog stick to make my character stop moving, my characters snaps left and moves momentarily to the left.
Reason 2: When I move down, normally, my character would run down, but my character will walk very slowly and refuse to sprint and when I let go, my character snaps forward and faces North.
Reason 3: My character will automatically move on his free will in one direction until I unplug the controller, and when I plug the controller back in, my character will do any of the two above.
Do I need to disassemble my controller/ If so, what size screwdriver should I use?

If you USED to be able to play games, i'd check chipset and video drivers before anything else, then start playing with things, try small facebook games, if they work, maybe try a demo of a medium intensity game and see if that works, if yes then try a heavy game (like crysis), if that doens't work it's a hardware issue with physicX engine, perhaps a Direct X issue.. it's hard to diagnose without knowing more.
the down contact pad on your controler is recieving contact. Maybe debris between the button you push and the contact pad itself. Maybe moisture or dirt. If you spilled something on it, thats what might happen.
Maybe it some how broke because it fell? to the ground? and landed? Usually that breaks things.... If it's jammed try taking it apart slowly and carefully then put it back in place, The screws are located in back of the controller the 4 really deep holes. If' that fails buy a new one. and try to play with your hands closer to your lap I've had this happen before.
Sounds like it was dropped or had something spilled into it. The motion control joystick or the arrow butttons are messed up. I bought a second wireless unit, tried it out and took the batteries out and put it away in a drawer. If the main unit goes bad, I'll have a backup. They can be found for around $30, which is less than a lot of games that end up being duds.
This is due to using outdated hardware. Its not necessarily any one thing. Sure, more RAM and a new video card (even an upgraded processor if possible with your main board) will help. But if your computer is 5 years old, you need a new one for gaming purposes.
I've seen your problem countless times, and if you don't have an upgradeable computer, or its a name brand pc, you will need a newer one.
The reason it seems to get worse, is that #1, your hardware just gets older as time goes on, and #2, games become more sophisticated, resource intensive, and have higher system requirements.
Your computer can no doubt handle a lot of things without issue, but games, anything video intensive, or that require a high % of RAM, processor usage, or video usage are going to give you problems.
So, I just discovered that I THOUGHT it was frozen at the health warning screen, but in all actuality it will only let you press the X to confirm that screen with controller number 1 even though it will let you do anything else with ANY controller. Silly, but true... Hope this helps
When these messages keep occurring it means the controller is either broken, damaged or about to die. I had that once with some games. For instance when I got shot and the controller rumbled it paused and said "No controller present".
Try checking other controllers, try cleaning the controller ports. (use a vaccuum to suck out dust out of the controller ports). And make sure no pins inside the controllers plug are bent or broken. if so: carefully bent it straight. Also check if the other end (the slots) aren't broken. They can be a bit wobbly.
If the problem occurs with multiple controllers which you believe aren't defective try the second controller port (I know, most games require the controller to be in Port 1) but maybe the port is broken. Which can be the result of shoving in the controllers to hard.
Also, just a hint: try not to swap controllers or Memory Card once the unit is powered on. Same goes for cables and other accesoiries.
If none of this helps, and you are sure the controllers are OK: get the console itself to either a Sony repairman or the shop you got it from.
