The timing circuit may be defective and the circuit board needs replacing. Have an authorized serviceman do a continuity test on the board and have it rest to factory specs.
Make sure your water is hot, at least 120deg f. Also, use least amount of soap you can get away with. Usually around 2 tablespoons for soft water. Use powdered soap not gel. Gel leaves a tiny residue each load and will clog up plumbing in dw after 4,5,or 6 years. Rinse agent such as Jet Dry is highly recommended.
Try the "Tang" trick. Orange Tang drink mix is mildly acidic. With an empty dishwasher, start and fill, then normal drain. On second fill, add a full jar of Tang then let the dishwasher run for a few minutes. Crack the door to stop the dishwasher and let it sit for several hours or overnight. Then close the door, push start and let the dw run through the remaining cycle. This will sometimes clean out the crud in the water lines.
Very common problem is soap build up in these machines. Try putting it into a wash cycle with no dishes, and no soap. Let it wash for about 5 minutes, and then open the door. If you see alot of soap suds, then soap build up is the problem. Try doing a couple loads with no soap, and no dishes, and throw a cup of vinegar into the machine halfway through the wash. Repeat as necessary. This should solve your problem.
Our Whirlpool Quiet Wash plus is 20+ years old and was on its way out the door because of erratic white residue, spotting, and film. Nothing worked: vinegar, different soaps, more soap, less soap. Today I opened it up and started digging behind covers and checking the insides - multiple places were clogged with a soap/mineral film - ugly! I sprayed the insides with Restore 4 (a tile cleaner) and scraped and brushed and broke loose the hidden deposits. The only thing I didn't open was the sump pump - but now know how to do so. (thanks FixYa)
Then I added about a 1/2 quart of vinegar and ran it full hot on the heavy wash cycle, added more vinegar between each cycle and let it dry. It looks super inside - the gunk is gone. I am now washing a load of glasses and am hoping for the best!
This happened to me as well. I think I solved the problem. It started when I first lowered the top rack. In doing so, the door doesn't open all the way. It also won't open all the way if your cutlery rack is in the front and you've put large utensils like a spatula. Consequently, detergent dried under the latch and it wouldn't firmly catch. For months I put up with it never emptying completely. The other day I took a tooth brush and very hot water and cleaned under the latch. After, I could feel a difference in the way the latch operated (with greater pop on opening). So far its been doing fine. Hope this helps. Denise
You probably need to clean the filter; here is a site to show you how to do it: http://01tutorials.com/video/1686251/how-to-clean-the-filter-on-a-whirlpool-gold-quiet-partner-iv-dishwasher/4107
Do not recommend premeasured tablets, usually too much soap. If pre-rinsing dishes use only 1 or two teaspoons of soap in the main
wash cup..do not put soap in the prewash cup. Excess soap can cause
oversudsing and make the soil sensor think the dishes are real dirty
initiating additional wash cycles. Use rinse-aid for better drying performance
